Role Overview

The System Administrator supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s IT infrastructure. Working closely with senior IT staff, this role assists with Windows and macOS environments, supports end users, and helps ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and up to date. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, a methodical problem-solver, and communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates.

Responsibilities


Systems Administration

• Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Intune.

• Support integration of macOS workstations with Windows Server and Active Directory environments.

• Help set up and manage user accounts, workstations, and access controls.

• Monitor system performance under the guidance of senior staff; help resolve issues as they arise.

• Assist with system upgrades, patches, and new software releases.

Network & Security

• Support maintenance of LAN/WAN networks and network file systems.

• Assist in enforcing security through access controls, firewalls, backups, and security testing.

• Help monitor systems for security threats and escalate incidents to senior staff promptly.

Support & Collaboration

• Provide technical support to employees for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.

• Troubleshoot and resolve common issues, escalating complex problems to senior team members.

• Work closely with IT managers and senior administrators, learning best practices and contributing to team goals.

• Assist technicians in diagnosing and correcting system failures.

Documentation & Training

• Help build and maintain an internal IT wiki covering technical documentation, system specs, policies, and procedures.

• Assist in developing training materials to help staff use new technologies.

• Write clear notes, documentation, and reports as required.


Qualifications

Required

• 3–4 years of experience (or equivalent education/internship experience) in IT support or systems administration.

• Basic familiarity with Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy concepts.

• Foundational understanding of networking concepts such as LAN/WAN and TCP/IP.

• Exposure to system security principles, including backups and access controls.

• Willingness to learn scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.

• Familiarity with common operating systems (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical users.

• Collaborative, team-oriented attitude with a desire to grow in IT.

Preferred

• Coursework or certifications in IT (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft fundamentals).

• Any hands-on experience with macOS in a Windows environment.

• Familiarity with multi-homed servers, including Dell hardware.

• Exposure to help desk or end-user support roles.


Working Conditions

This role is primarily performed in an office environment. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, operate standard office equipment, and communicate clearly in person and by telephone. The role may require lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion when handling IT hardware. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
