LABORATORY ANIMAL RESOURCES (IN-LARS-IUINA)

The Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) contributes to and enhances the services and collaborative efforts of medical research at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine. In addition to the provision of basic husbandry for a wide variety of laboratory animal species, the veterinary staff and other highly experienced laboratory animal professionals of the IU School of Medicine LARC provide training, supplies, and specialized service support for medical research.

The field of laboratory animal science has evolved substantially over the past two decades. We understand how the laboratory environment can both positively and negatively affect the results of research projects, and we recognize that an educated and empowered animal care team can be effective in working as an unofficial but critical member of the research team utilizing animal models. The LARC staff has deep experience in laboratory animal care and has achieved various levels of certification in laboratory animal science.
  • Counsels academic and/or staff employees and management on various human resources (HR) topics and functions; communicates and shares understanding of various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, and other government regulations
  • Researches, responds to, and addresses various employee relation issues such as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employee complaints, workers compensation, etc.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge and skill in various HR functions, in addition to growing knowledge in HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements to provide quality HR guidance to academic and/or staff employees and managers
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the operational strategy and culture for recruitment coordinator, school or department
  • Contributes and/or manages various academic and/or staff HR activities, projects, or initiatives, such as recruitment, onboarding, engagement, or performance management
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on relevant academic and/or HR topics
  • May conduct research and analysis for local/department HR team or centers of expertise (COE) partners and develops solutions and recommends course of action
  • May lead small projects or activities

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Some experience in human resources or a related field

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional/Professional in Human Resources (SHRM-CP/PHR) within 1 year from date of hire

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
