Job Title: Director, Digital Strategy & Business Development
WMG is seeking a dynamic and well-connected professional to power our digital strategy and business development efforts across Japan, Korea and the wider APAC region. This role will drive licensing deals, partnerships, and revenue growth across digital platforms (e.g., streaming services, social media, gaming). Leveraging your extensive industry network, you will proactively source new partners and uncover untapped opportunities, driving significant incremental revenue for the business. You will also make use of data to form compelling narratives to help structure and evaluate high-impact partnerships.
Due to the focus of this position, the talent can be based in Tokyo, Seoul or Hong Kong.
Key Responsibilities:
Deal Execution & Licensing:
- As part of the APAC business development team, lead end-to-end negotiations for digital partnerships including, but not limited to music streaming, fitness platforms, social and gaming.
- Structure deal terms, analyze economics, and optimize revenue models.
- Use your network to identify new partnership opportunities and optimize existing ones.
Deal Valuation:
- Refresh, maintain and evaluate existing deals to optimize ROI and long-term value.
- Conduct data analysis and market research to support negotiation strategies.
- Track market benchmarks (rates, market share, growth) to inform pricing and deal structuring.
Strategic Planning & Deck Creation:
- Develop presentations and business cases for senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and potential partners.
- Create materials that clearly communicate complex strategic initiatives, performance results, and market landscapes.
- Support the development of local and regional digital strategy based on quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Data Analysis & Business Intelligence:
- Analyze platform performance, market trends, and consumer behavior to generate actionable business insights.
Deal Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Support on deal analysis and work flow activities across the wider BD team.
- Work closely with Legal, Finance, and Marketing teams to ensure deals are aligned with broader business priorities.
Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years in a business development role.
- Negotiation & Deal-Making: Proven track record in leading and closing complex, end-to-end commercial negotiations for digital partnerships, licensing agreements, and/or strategic alliances
- Strategic & Commercial Mindset: Ability to identify, evaluate, and prioritize new business opportunities that align with WMG's digital strategy and growth objectives, translating complex data into clear, actionable business recommendations.
- Communication & Storytelling: Exceptional presentation skills; able to simplify complex deal terms and concepts into persuasive narratives for stakeholders at all levels.
- Wide Network of Potential Partners: Established network of senior contacts and relationships at key digital service providers (DSPs), media/tech companies, and emerging digital platforms (global and/or regional).
- Collaborative Partner: A team-oriented professional who thrives in a cross-functional environment.
- Bonus, Not Essential: A passion for music and a basic understanding of the music industry or copyright frameworks is advantageous, but not a primary requirement. We will provide industry-specific training.
- Languages: Fluent in Japanese and/or Korean (verbal & written) and Business-level English proficiency required
This position requires a minimum of four days per week in the office. We value in-office collaboration and believe it’s essential for talent development and fostering strong working relationships
