Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and review the general ledger to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities, including valuation, usage analysis, and reconciliation to physical counts.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, cost reports, and detailed variance analyses.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives for mine operations.
- Ensure strong internal controls across accounting, procurement, and inventory processes.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and support audit, compliance, and regulatory activities.
- Provide financial insight and decision support to operations, maintenance, plant, and underground mine leadership.
- Review, approve, and mentor accounting work performed by junior staff.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with site safety standards, MSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Create and prepare financial reporting as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with month-end close, inventory accounting, and cost accounting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, Pronto), including financial, inventory, procurement, and cost modules.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, data analysis, and reporting.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
- CPA or CPA-eligible status preferred.
- Previous mine-site, manufacturing, or heavy industrial accounting experience preferred.
- Experience supporting audits and working in complex operational environments preferred.
- Site-based role in an active mine operation.
- Regular interaction with operations, warehouse, and procurement areas.
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
- May require extended hours during month-end close, year-end close, or audit periods.
