Reports To: Vice President of Operations
Works Closely With: Sales & Marketing Director, Project & Safety Manager, Operations Manager, Vendors, Subcontractors
Position Overview
The Estimating Manager is a full-time, salary, nonunion position responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects. This role supports both sales and operations by ensuring work is properly scoped, priced, and planned before execution begins.
The Estimating Manager works closely with sales, operations, and field leadership to develop estimates that reflect real-world conditions, company capabilities, and operational capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements
- Perform quantity takeoffs and cost calculations
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
Preconstruction Support
- Support the bid and proposal process from initial review through submission
- Clearly define scope, assumptions, and exclusions to ensure accurate pricing
- Participate in project handoff meetings to operations and field teams
- Assist with change order pricing and revised estimates when required
Cost Data & Accuracy
- Maintain current pricing databases for labor, materials, equipment, and vendors
- Track historical job cost data to improve estimate accuracy
- Identify risks, constraints, and cost drivers within project scopes
- Support consistency in estimating systems and tools (FMP, Pro Estimate estimating software)
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Sales & Marketing to support proposals and client needs
- Coordinate with the Vice President of Operations and Project & Operations Manager to ensure estimates align with execution capabilities
- Communicate pricing logic, risks, and assumptions clearly
- Support leadership in evaluating project feasibility and workload planning
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience in civil construction, energy industry, & service-based estimating
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and labor
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and project documentation
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Proficient with Pro Estimate software preferred
- Bachelor's degree preferred
