People Systems (Human Resources) & Safety Intern

The People Systems (Human Resources) & Safety Intern will provide support for all shifts.
This position reports to the People Systems Safety Manager with the direction (dotted line authority) from the People Systems Safety Supervisor.
Role Description And Job Accountabilities
Specific Job Accountabilities/Functions (to be incorporated in my IDP and WFRD):
Coordinate/assist with safety activities
- Issue locks, PPE etc.
- LOTO procedure update, create and post
- Assist with Electronic Filing/Recordkeeping
- Assist with safety investigations, incident report follow-up, etc.
- Complete and or assist with EHS Compliance Maintenance Plan Items
- Conduct and participate in periodic internal/external safety, health, environmental, and security audits and ensure timely completion of findings
- Under close supervision, provide training and feedback to improve overall knowledge of EHS activities
- Ensure completion of incident investigations and corrective actions
- Assist with the management of the current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) database
- Assist with Behavior Based Safety Project - Develop training materials for implementation of a Behavior Based Safety program
- Review and align with Manager on activities completed and actions taken during shift.
- Agree to scope of work and timeline and follow up with Manager
- Turn in assigned activity as required
- Assist with the OJT process at the facility
- Assist with maintaining work instructions and certification checklists
- Participate on teams and or improvement projects developing OJT training plans and programs
- Notify Supervisor/Manager of any irregularities in training, materials, process, or equipment
- Assist with the annual review of all facility work instructions
- Support continuous improvement projects with use of departmental data
- Be visible and approachable by all levels of team members; mentoring and coaching

- Achieve through teamwork; lead through influence
- Must have High School diploma or GED
- Must be enrolled in a college or university EHS Program
- Understand manufacturing guidelines for food safety and sanitation
- Must have proven safety record in past work history
- Proficient in basic computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Power Point, Word and Excel)
- Must possess ability to oversee multiple areas of responsibility including people and processes.
- Have ability to function in multiple positions
- Must possess ability and aptitude to identify, correct and improve potential safety items; both human and food
- Understand quality standards, follow those standards and elevate concerns when processes are not functioning correctly
- Participate on ERT, Evacuation Team or other Safety Teams as needed
- Understand, utilize and train team members in the use of measurement systems and tools
- Demonstrate reasoning ability and critical thinking skills to resolve production and personnel problems.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control to continuously reduce variation in systems
- Must participate in all knowledge, skill and EQ assessments and/or testing and training
- Understand manufacturing process and possess the ability to drive continuous improvement
- Speaking/continuous. Required to clearly communicate verbally with the ability to use a two-way radio.
- Touch sensitivity/frequent. Team member is able to sense if a piece of equipment is too hot or cold.
- Bending and stooping/occasionally. Team member has many job activities requiring bending or stooping
- Physical exertion (non-assisted breathing)/occasionally. Team member activities require the agility to move in and around equipment. Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight, confined areas
- Holding/occasionally. Must be able to grasp and hold items to complete necessary job functions.
- Inserting/occasionally. Team member will need to be able to insert tools, screws, nails, parts, etc.
- Lifting/occasionally. Team member is required to lift tools, parts, building supplies, paperwork, records, etc. Weight range would be up to 55 lbs.
- Pulling/occasional. Team member is required to pull carts, totes, boxes, etc.
- Pushing/occasional. Team member is required to push carts, totes, boxes, etc.
- Standing/occasionally. Team member is required to stand periodically throughout the day. Team members must have ability to stand for up to 8 hours.
- Walking/occasionally. Team member is required to move about work areas to meet facility standards. Steady work pace is common for these needs to be met successfully.
- Driving/occasionally. Team member may be required to drive personal vehicle to other facilities.
- Environment: Team member must be able to work in a hot or cold environment.
