Beverage and Service Manager, Smith


The Beverage and Service Manager is first and foremost a leader to the staff and host to our guests. They will support the entire FOH team to ensure that the bar and dining room are functioning with excellence during service. The Beverage and Service Manager will be expected to learn Back of House procedures to ensure food is delivered on time, on brand, and with excellence. Communication between Front and Back of House, as well as through management teams and down to every staff member, is of chief importance.

The Beverage and Service Manager is accountable for organizing all beverage related operations in the restaurant as well as making sure all LBW invoices are uploaded properly and on time through Margin Edge. They are accountable for the overall growth of the program as well as making sure it is maintained, and on brand. They are accountable for curating a menu that changes seasonally. The Beverage and Service Manager is accountable for making sure all current and new staff is trained in bar integrity, beverage and food menu.

In addition to the regular weekly schedule of management shifts, the Beverage and Service Manager will be expected to attend weekly manager meetings, and training as offered by Smith or The Business Director. The Beverage and Service Manager will be expected to learn all positions in the Front of House to ensure that at any time this person can jump in to help the restaurant in any situation. The Beverage and Service Manager must also handle the administrative duties of the day such as cash handling, blog reporting, invoice organization, etc.

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within the hospitality industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional and complete communication, highly encouraged through email or Microsoft Teams and not via Text or social media.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a focus on teamwork.
  • Strong knowledge of beverages, including cocktails, wines, and non-alcoholic options.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and cost control strategies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for beverage service.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Social Awareness – always understanding what is appropriate to discuss or do at work.
  • Time management – able to be present and thoroughly complete tasks in a well-designed and organized timeline.

Accountabilities Include:


Beverage Program Management

Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive beverage programs for the restaurant.


Curate and update diverse and appealing beverage menus in collaboration with the culinary team.


Monitor industry trends to stay ahead of market demands and competition.


Inventory Control

Oversee the procurement of beverage inventory. Ensuring optimal stock levels while minimizing waste.


Implement inventory control measures to monitor and manage costs effectively.


Work closely with suppliers to negotiate favorable pricing and maintain strong relationships.


Staff Training and Development

Conduct training sessions for restaurant staff on product knowledge, service standards, and responsible beverage service.


Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure staff consistently delivers exceptional beverage service.


Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the beverage team.


Quality Assurance

Maintain high standards of quality for all beverage offerings.


Regularly assess and improve the presentation and the taste of beverages.


Address and resolve customer complaints related to beverages promptly and professionally.


Financial Performance

Collaborate with the finance team to develop and manage budgets for beverage related expenses.


Implement cost control measures to maximize profitability without compromising quality.


Analyze sales data and trends to identify opportunities for revenue growth.


Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to beverage service.


Stay informed about changes in licensing requirements and implement necessary adjustments.


Compensation

  • Salary $65,000-$75,000/DOE.
  • Paid time off that grows with years spent with Smith.
  • Health benefits offered after 60 days of continuous employment, employer pays base plan after 1 year of salaried employment.
