This position exists to provide economic analysis that supports the formulation of state policies that promote the growth and development of Minnesota's economy. The position also assists with development of tools, analyses and recommendations necessary for the development and evaluation of development proposals, programs and policies. Some of the major tasks are to provide analysis to encourage businesses to locate and expand in Minnesota, conduct economic analyses of Minnesota's economy, conduct research to identify and assess key factors relating to performance of the state's economy; aid clients in the design and evaluation of programs, and provide analytic assistance to internal and external clients.
Position responsibilities include:
- Provide information and analysis to encourage businesses to locate and expand in Minnesota.
- Conduct analysis of projects, policies, issues and programs for their effect on the growth of the Minnesota economy.
- Conduct analysis of Minnesota and U.S. economic trends to identify long-and short-term impact on business and economic development.
- Independently and with teams, aid clients in the design and evaluation of programs.
- Provide general analytic assistance within Economic Analysis Unit, Economic Development and Research Division, other DEED divisions, other state agencies and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years* of experience conducting economic research.
- Bachelor's degree in economics or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience.
- Skill in quantitative analysis.
- Knowledge of sources of Minnesota economic data.
- Experience with statistical software such as STATA, SPSS or related software.
- Experience with spreadsheets and word processing, such as Microsoft Excel or Word.
- Communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate information and present data.
- Ability to problem-solve and offer solutions.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in economics, public policy, social science, or other closely related field as determined by the agency.
- Experience with one or more tools such as ArcGIS, Lightcast, IMPLAN, REMI, Online Survey Tools such as Snap Survey, and/or Tableau.
