Our programs are intended to span the continuum between basic and clinical science, in which discoveries are rapidly advanced from the level of molecular and cellular biology through animal models and ultimately into clinical testing. The development of this unique program in immunology and virology provides an important training opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OHSU. This is why an important part of our mission is the training of young scientists in newer academic disciplines emerging at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute.
Function/Duties of Position
- Qualitative and quantitative research data analysis, programming, database development and management, research data visualization, and interpretation of a wide variety of research data.
- Work may include selecting data samples, developing research instruments and data models, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, developing recommendations based on research findings, etc.
- Prepare reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.
- Under general supervision, works on assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope.
- Collaborate on the design, documentation, testing and implementation of research studies.
- May independently plan limited studies or assists higher level Analysts in large, complex studies.
- Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Conduct data/statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols.
- Maintain and develop research gathering, retrieval and reporting systems.
- May perform any routine duties under general supervision.
- Computation and data analysis.
- Establish and modify analysis protocols used by lab members.
- Create and modify lab database.
- Create visualizations of research results.
- Tissue processing and other lab benchwork as needed.
- Masters degree in relevant field; OR
- Bachelors in relevant field AND 2 years of relevant experience.
- Coding in R.
- Coding in Python.
- Fluency using Microsoft Access.
- Fluency using computers running both Apple and PC operating systems.
- Proficiency using Microsoft office suite: Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Excellent communication, analytical and organization skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Comfort in handling and working with animal tissues.
- Coursework in a biology, biochemistry, immunology, or related field.
- Experience using HALO image analysis application.
- Bioinformatics experience.
- Knowledge of Immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization-based methods.
- Understanding the science underlying high-plex staining modalities (CosMx and GeoMx).
- Willingness to work with pathogens potentially dangerous to humans.
- Willingness to work in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 facilities.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability and willingness to work independently.
- Ability to carry and lift 35 lbs.
- Ability to stand for three continuous hours a day.
- Ability to work on computer for five continuous hours a day.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
