Job Description:

Rate of Pay: $20 per hour; this is a benefits eligible role.

Under general supervision, the Management Intern supports activities, functions, and programs of Cultural Connections. As a member of the team, this position supports the coordination of university-wide events, planning efforts, advances global leadership development opportunities for students, provides resources and support mechanisms for culturally-based student leaders, and can serve as secondary advisor for Coalition(s) as needed. The Management Intern provides administrative, strategic planning, advisory, and financial support as needed.

Through their efforts, the incumbent cultivates an affinity for the University, creates engagement between international and domestic students, and promotes campus-wide cultural intelligence. The Management Intern contributes to the overall efforts of the Cultural Connections team and serves on various department and university committees. The position reports to the Associate Director, Cultural Connections and is primarily based on the Tempe campus, with university-wide responsibilities.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This is a 20 hour per week position, and may include some nights and weekends, with flexible days and hours based on programming needs. This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties:

  • Supports the planning and implementation of programs that foster an inclusive environment celebrating culture, building community, affirming identities, and honoring heritage.
  • Serve as secondary advisor for 1 coalition or more (based on departmental need) and support respective member organization advisors.
  • Support in facilitation of departmental inclusion
  • workshops for faculty, staff and students.
  • Foster programming that advances respective coalition heritage celebrations.
  • Support programming, training, and the development of experiences that align with the unit vision.
  • Ensures that program goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with departmental and institutional priorities.
  • Supports leadership training and organizational management opportunities for student leaders through workshops, seminars, and other professional development.
  • Supports Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) divisional initiatives and events inclusive of Fall Welcome, Homecoming, Culture Jam, Student Organizational Fairs, and more.
  • Represents Cultural Connections and EOSS by serving on various departments and university committees; attends seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Travel to other ASU campuses and occasionally off-campus events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership practices and techniques.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Experience in program development and implementation.
  • Experience in coordinating and prioritizing work and activities of self and others.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in student organizations.

  • Walk throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather
  • Work collaboratively to achieve objectives
  • Climb stairs in locations with no elevator, such as with the mezzanine level of the MU, or Irish Hall
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
