Data Engineer Consultant

Summary

Our client is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer Consultant for their Kansas City office to support a strategic Oracle-to-Snowflake data modernization initiative. This individual will serve as the primary data engineering resource within the software development team, helping assess existing database structures, evaluate migration strategy, and execute hands-on data engineering work. This role requires someone who can operate independently, make technical recommendations, and partner closely with an internal software development team to modernize and optimize enterprise data architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing Oracle Database structures, schemas, relationships, and data dependencies.
  • Assess and recommend the best migration approach for Oracle-to-Snowflake modernization including lift-and-shift vs redesign where appropriate.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries for data transformation, validation, and analysis.
  • Validate migrated data for accuracy, integrity, and performance.
  • Partner closely with internal software developers to align data engineering solutions with application needs.
  • Support data modeling, schema design, and modernization efforts as needed.
  • Troubleshoot production data issues, performance bottlenecks, and data quality concerns.
  • Serve as the primary data engineering subject matter expert within the development organization.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on data engineering experience in enterprise production environments.
  • Advanced Snowflake experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills with in-depth relational database knowledge.
  • Experience in analyzing database schemas, structures, relationships, and data flows.
  • Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines and data movement processes.
  • Solid understanding of Oracle Database or other enterprise relational database platforms.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly autonomous consulting environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with software development teams.
  • Experience in Oracle-to-Cloud migration or broader data modernizations.
  • Data modeling/schema design experience.
  • Solid understanding of layered data architecture concepts (bronze/silver/gold).

Preferred

  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Python experience.
  • Background in Java or software development.
  • Experience with ETL/orchestration tools including Airflow, Informatica, Talend, or similar.
  • Financial Services or Insurance industry experience.
  • Familiarity with BI/analytics platforms including ThoughtSpot, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.

This is a 12-Month Contract opportunity with our Kansas City, MO client.
