Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing & Product
Indexed description
Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite)
Reporting to: Senior Director of Marketing and Product
Salary: $170,000-190,000
Bonus Target: 10-15%
The Opportunity
Telesis Bio is seeking a high-autonomy, technically elite leader to own the intersection of platform strategy and product marketing. This is not a role for a "manager of tasks"; we need a strategist who can hit the ground running to implement their own systems and drive our commercial narrative. You will be responsible for positioning our automated synthesis platforms, like the Gibson SOLA, as the essential engine for AI-driven antibody discovery.
The Requirement: Build, Don’t Just Manage
As a key member of a lean biotech team, you must be a self-reliant operator. You are expected to independently architect our marketing & position within the AI-native antibody discovery market, define our customer segmentation, and create the board-level narratives that connect our technology to financial upside.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Domain Fluency in AI-Driven Drug Discovery: You must possess deep understanding of DBTL loops and the critical role data generation plays in model performance. You understand where the actual bottlenecks live in Antibody Therapeutic Development (not small molecule).
- Technical Product Management: You have owned a complex technical platform (not SaaS) and worked cross-functionally with R&D, automation, and software teams. You understand the fundamental trade-offs between throughput, fidelity, cost, and UX.
- Strategic Marketing & Positioning: You can define Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs) and build positioning that actually differentiates us in the market. You have a proven track record of building product launches that influence adoption and revenue, not just "driving awareness".
- Investor & Board-Level Narrative Experience: You have the ability to frame the "Why now" and "Why we win" for an executive audience. You have experience building Series A/B/C fundraising decks or board-level presentations that connect technology to market value.
- Elite Technical Storytelling: You can take complex topics—enzymatic DNA synthesis, assembly, and AI training loops—and turn them into clear, compelling visuals and narratives that simplify complexity for the end-user.
Strong "Nice-to-Have" Assets
- Antibody Discovery Exposure: Direct experience with display technologies (phage/yeast) or screening bottlenecks to shorten your ramp time.
- Commercial Modeling: Experience shaping pricing and packaging decisions, including on-prem vs. service vs. hybrid models and cost-per-construct analysis.
- Data-Driven Mindset: The ability to use hard data rather than intuition to inform segmentation, forecasting, and positioning.
- Automation & Lab Systems: Familiarity with Echo, Beckman, or Tecan systems and an understanding of workflow integration constraints.
Qualifications
- Education: PhD in Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, or a related field is strongly preferred to maintain peer-level credibility.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in technical marketing or product management within the life sciences.
- Onsite: This is a fully onsite position at our San Diego headquarters. We value the high-bandwidth collaboration that happens in person, though we maintain a flexible work environment to support individual productivity and work-life integration.
Benefits/Perks
- Total Rewards: Competitive base salary ($170k–$190k), 15–20% bonus target, and Employee Stock Options.
- Health & Wealth: Comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage, HSA options, and a 401(k) plan.
- Recharge: Generous PTO plus 40 hours of dedicated annual “wellness time” (separate from PTO).
- High-Visibility Environment: Join a tight-knit team of ~30 with direct exposure to executive leadership and company strategy.
- Career Upside: High-impact role with cross-functional leadership and exposure to cutting-edge synthetic biology partnerships.
- Team Building: Monthly company-sponsored lunches and in-office/offsite events.
Why Telesis Bio?

As a lean, high-velocity team in the heart of San Diego, we offer the rare opportunity to bypass corporate bureaucracy and directly influence the "Digital-to-Biological" frontier. If you’re an elite technical strategist who thrives on high autonomy and wants to see your systems drive the next generation of AI-led antibody discovery, this is your opportunity.
