Position Summary

This position audits and reviews financial transactions including cost allocation patterns for general institution operations, federal grants, accounts, direct pay vouchers, journal and deposit vouchers, revenue generating occupational therapy programs, stores operations. This position performs the final audit of institution purchasing card statements, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, Department of Administration (DOA) agency accounting, internal controls, and policies/procedures. This position performs purchasing and/or purchasing approval duties and prepares various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports using the PeopleSoft/STAR interface and Finder.

In addition, this position serves as lead worker for Financial Specialists in the FLCI Business Office responsible for the preparation, processing and reconciliation of a wide variety of fiscal transactions including preparation of reports to FLCI management staff on those transactions and recommendation and implementation of appropriate procedural enhancements. This position has secondary responsibility for the institution’s Risk Management, Procurement and Fleet Management programs.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 02-15 with a starting pay rate of $30.47/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process and must be clearly described in the letter of qualification and resume:

Qualified Applicants Will Have Experience In All The Following

  • Auditing invoices for accuracy against receiving reports, purchase order, bids and encumbrances and processing payments using a computerized accounting system.
  • Leading, guiding, or coaching other staff (e.g. training, advising, reviewing work, problem solving, etc.)
  • Performing accounting practices and procedures, completing fiscal audits and reconciliations, and creating reports
