Overview
The Director of IT & Systems is responsible for overseeing the organization’s technology ecosystem, ensuring reliability, security, and alignment with business objectives. This role leads a small internal IT team (2–3 employees), partners closely with a Managed Service Provider (MSP), and supports system integrations across finance, supply chain, e‑commerce, and commercial teams.
Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, the Director of IT & Systems owns the IT roadmap and ensures technology enables operational efficiency, cost control, brand enablement, and scalable growth. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technology leader who enjoys balancing strategy with execution in a growing, systems‑driven environment.
Role Details
- Work Model: Hybrid — on‑site approximately 3 days per week, with flexibility based on business needs
- Schedule: Full‑time during Pacific Time business hours, with occasional evening or weekend support as needed
- Physical Demands: Primarily desk‑based, with occasional hands‑on IT support (lifting light equipment up to ~25–40 lbs)
- Travel: Minimal; primarily local between office and warehouse locations
Key Responsibilities
Systems Architecture & Integration (35%)
- Partner with MSPs and vendors to design and evolve the overall technology architecture aligned with business goals
- Oversee system integrations and data flows across orders, inventory, customers, financials, and analytics
- Maintain a living map of systems, interfaces, and dependencies
- Conduct ongoing audits to identify redundancies, technical debt, security risks, and optimization opportunities
Technology Strategy & Platform Management (25%)
- Own and execute the IT roadmap aligned with business priorities and growth goals
- Evaluate, select, implement, and sunset technology platforms as needed
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, costs, and performance
- Provide clear, actionable technology recommendations to executive leadership
IT Operations, Infrastructure & Security (20%)
- Ensure MSP effectiveness across networks, servers, backups, and security controls
- Coordinate incident response and issue resolution with internal stakeholders
- Oversee access controls, data privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., PCI‑DSS, GDPR, CCPA)
- Establish standards for documentation, data ownership, and institutional knowledge retention
AI Strategy, Automation & Intelligence (10%)
- Develop and execute an AI and automation roadmap aligned with business objectives
- Identify high‑impact opportunities for automation and operational intelligence
- Evaluate emerging AI and automation tools in partnership with technical vendors
- Establish responsible AI governance standards in collaboration with Finance and Legal
Cross‑Functional Collaboration (10%)
- Partner with Sales and Marketing on e‑commerce and B2B platform optimization
- Support ERP, logistics, and supply chain technology initiatives
- Collaborate with Finance on reporting, analytics, and data infrastructure
- Contribute to evolving responsibilities as the role and organization grow
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- 5–7 years of experience in IT leadership, management, or systems administration
- Experience working with Managed Service Providers (MSPs)
- Hands‑on experience with ERP platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Acumatica, SAP), CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), e‑commerce platforms, and marketing automation tools
- Strong understanding of systems integration, APIs, middleware, and iPaaS solutions
- Experience with data architecture, ETL processes, and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI)
- Knowledge of information governance, cybersecurity best practices, and access controls
- Strong project management skills with the ability to translate business objectives into technical execution
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred / Differentiators:
- Experience supporting both DTC and wholesale business models
- Background in consumer brands or product‑driven organizations
- Technical certifications (e.g., Salesforce Architect, AWS Solutions Architect)
- Experience consolidating or modernizing fragmented technology stacks in growth environments
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000.
