Non Executive Director and Secretary

Join Mens Talk As A Non-Executive Director Or Board Secretary
About Us
Mens Talk is here to change the conversation around men’s mental health and suicide prevention. We believe every man deserves a safe space to talk, connect, and grow – without stigma or judgment. Through community programs, events, and advocacy, we’re creating a movement that supports men in being open, strong, and resilient. It is through connection, collaboration, prevention, and early intervention that we will impact the rates of male suicide.
We are a purpose-driven, values-led organisation with a passionate Board, team and community behind us. We value honest conversations, meaningful connection and the kind of practical support that helps people feel less alone.
About the Roles
Mens Talk is growing, and we’re looking for two new people to help shape the next chapter of our work in men’s mental health and wellbeing.
Following our last call for Non-Executive Directors, we were genuinely blown away by the volume and quality of applicants who put their hand up to support Mens Talk. It was a strong reminder that this work matters, and that there are so many skilled, generous people who want to contribute to positive change in our community.
As we continue to grow, we are now seeking expressions of interest for two separate volunteer positions:
1. Non-Executive Director
A formal Board Director role, supporting the strategic direction, governance and long-term sustainability of Mens Talk.
2. Board Secretary
An officer role supporting the Board with governance administration, meeting processes, records and compliance. This is not a formal Director position.
What We’re Looking For
At this stage of our growth, we are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Legal
- Human Resources
- Governance
- Risk management
- Compliance
- Board administration or company secretarial support
Previous board experience is valued, but not essential. What matters most is that you bring good judgment, integrity, care for the work, and a willingness to contribute in a practical and meaningful way.
Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
About The Non-Executive Director Role
As a Non-Executive Director, you will help guide the strategic direction of Mens Talk and support the organisation to grow sustainably and responsibly.
This may include:
- Providing strategic guidance and oversight
- Supporting good governance and risk management
- Helping ensure Mens Talk remains aligned with its mission and values
- Contributing specialist advice in your area of expertise
- Acting as an advocate for men’s mental health and wellbeing in the community
About The Board Secretary Role
The Board Secretary will support Mens Talk as an officer of the organisation.
This role will work closely with the Chair, Board and CEO to support effective governance, including meeting administration, agendas, minutes, records, compliance processes and board communications.
To be clear, this is not a formal Director role and does not carry the same responsibilities or voting rights as a Non-Executive Director position.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to use your skills and experience to support a growing Western Australian charity working to improve men’s mental health and wellbeing.
You’ll be joining a supportive, purpose-driven team that values honesty, compassion, connection and practical action.
These are volunteer positions with flexible commitments, suited to people who want to give back, contribute their expertise and be part of something meaningful.
A Note To Previous Applicants
To everyone who applied during our last Non-Executive Director process: thank you.
We were genuinely grateful for the level of interest and the quality of applications we received. If you applied previously and remain interested, we warmly encourage you to apply again or reconnect with us.
Given the volume of interest, we also apologise that we may not be able to personally respond to every applicant. Please know that every expression of interest is appreciated.
How To Apply
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Please follow the application steps and share your resume, along with a short cover letter outlining:
- which role you are interested in
