Our client, a growing engineering and infrastructure consulting firm, is seeking a Director of Roadway/Highway Design to lead and oversee transportation engineering operations within a growing regional practice. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced transportation engineering professional with a strong background in roadway/highway design, team leadership, project delivery, and business development. The position will play a key role in driving operational performance, mentoring project teams, expanding client relationships, and supporting long-term regional growth initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee roadway/highway design and transportation engineering operations within the assigned business unit
• Provide strategic leadership, direction, and operational oversight for transportation engineering teams and projects
• Supervise project managers, senior project managers, and engineering staff including mentoring, performance management, and team development
• Manage transportation projects from proposal development through construction services while ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved
• Develop and expand business opportunities while supporting client relationship management and business development initiatives
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, business partners, DOT agencies, and industry organizations
• Support proposal development efforts, workload forecasting, staffing plans, and project pursuit strategies
• Monitor operational and financial performance metrics including labor utilization, revenue, and project performance
• Collaborate with leadership teams to support operational excellence and regional growth initiatives
• Ensure compliance with DOT standards, municipal regulations, and transportation design requirements
• Represent the organization within the transportation engineering community and professional organizations

Qualifications;

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required
• 15+ years of professional consulting, DOT, or transportation design experience
• Minimum 5 years of project management and leadership experience within transportation engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Strong background in roadway/highway design and transportation infrastructure projects
• Experience preparing roadway design plans and working within relevant DOT jurisdictions required
• Thorough understanding of municipal and DOT codes, regulations, and transportation standards
• Strong leadership, communication, team management, and business development skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while leading technical and operational teams
• Strong client-facing experience and ability to build long-term business relationships
