Senior Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Our Client an innovative travel technology company is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale high performance backend systems supporting millions of users and high-volume transactions. This role will focus on backend architecture, API development, system scalability, database optimization, and platform reliability across a fast-growing global marketplace platform.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience with Node.js, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure while contributing to technical leadership, mentoring, and engineering best practices. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with product and engineering leadership on large-scale backend initiatives and next-generation AI-powered platform features.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis
• Optimize SQL queries, database schemas, and application performance across large datasets
• Build reliable, high-performance systems capable of supporting heavy traffic and large transaction volumes
• Contribute to backend architecture, distributed systems design, and scalability initiatives
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools as part of the engineering workflow
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and leadership on platform enhancements and feature development
• Identify technical debt and lead refactoring and modernization initiatives
• Participate in code reviews, deployments, and engineering best practices
• Mentor engineers and contribute to overall team technical growth
• Drive projects from concept through production deployment
• Support DevOps, CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure automation initiatives

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Advanced SQL query optimization and debugging experience
• Experience building high-scale consumer-facing applications
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and backend scalability principles
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices in AWS or Google Cloud environments
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and infrastructure as code
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and modern engineering workflows
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Self-driven mindset with strong ownership and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within travel, marketplace, or e-commerce platforms
• Experience supporting platforms with millions of daily users
• Experience with machine learning deployment platforms such as Vertex AI, SageMaker, or Azure ML
• Frontend experience with React or Next.js
• Open-source contributions or technical community involvement
