AD Energy Recruitment is partnering with a growing organisation in the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and anaerobic digestion sector to appoint a Lead Plant Operator for a large-scale biogas facility based in Fulton, Michigan.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable day-to-day running of the plant across feedstock receiving, anaerobic digestion, RNG production, digestate handling, and wastewater management.
The Lead Operator will play a key role in overseeing plant performance, supporting Operators and Technicians onsite, troubleshooting operational issues, and helping maintain strong safety and compliance standards within a 24/7 process environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support daily plant operations and monitor facility performance across all process areas
- Utilize SCADA and HMI systems to oversee and optimize plant operations
- Assist in maintaining stable and efficient RNG and biogas production
- Troubleshoot operational and equipment issues and support corrective actions
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability teams
- Support and mentor Operators and Technicians on shift
- Ensure safe work practices, SOP adherence, and compliance with site procedures
- Assist with training activities and operational audits
- Monitor equipment condition and report performance or reliability concerns
- Support preventative maintenance activities and plant shutdown/start-up procedures
- Respond to operational alarms, process upsets, and onsite issues as required
- Maintain accurate operational records and shift reporting documentation
- Assist in maintaining plant cleanliness, housekeeping, and overall site standards
- Support coverage for operational schedules when required
- Travel occasionally to support additional facilities or operational activities
Requirements:
- Experience working within anaerobic digestion, RNG, biogas, wastewater, landfill gas, or industrial process plant environments
- Previous experience in a Lead Operator, Senior Operator, or similar hands-on operations role
- Strong understanding of industrial plant operations and process systems
- Experience using SCADA and HMI systems within a processing environment
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and operational documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Safety-focused mindset with the ability to work within a 24/7 operational environment
- Ability to lead by example and support shift teams onsite
- Comfortable working in physically demanding industrial environments and varying weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license required
