JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Manager, Shared Services (AR Cash Applications) is responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, and optimization of enterprise-wide cash application processes within a large-scale shared services environment. This role drives standardized operations, automation, and financial integrity across a multi-location network, ensuring accurate and timely application of cash, compliance with internal controls, and alignment with broader organizational goals.
This leader partners cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, IT, Business Development and external stakeholders and within Shared Services (Accounts Payable, Treasury, Communications, Accounts Receivable) to transform processes, enable scalable growth, and deliver actionable insights that improve cash flow, working capital, and operational performance. The role provides oversight of people, processes, and systems, focusing on continuous improvement, digital enablement, and best-in-class shared services delivery.
Essential Duties And Responsiblities
- Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for AR Cash Applications within the shared services model, aligning with enterprise finance and operational objectives.
- Drive transformation initiatives, including automation, system enhancements, and process standardization to reduce manual effort and increase efficiency.
- Establish scalable frameworks to support continued organizational growth across a multi-location network (600+ sites).
- Sponsor and lead cross-functional projects impacting cash application, receivables performance, and financial systems.
- Provide enterprise-level oversight of cash application operations, including payment processing, receipting, and reconciliation accuracy.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, compliance requirements, and financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP).
- Implement and monitor KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee exception management, root cause analysis, and resolution frameworks to improve cycle times and accuracy.
- Deliver data-driven insights on AR performance, including aging, cash flow, reserves, and operational trends.
- Partner with senior leadership to influence decision-making through forecasting, analytics, and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve working capital, reduce unapplied cash, and enhance overall liquidity.
- Design and maintain best-in-class shared services processes, ensuring consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all locations.
- Lead process governance, documentation, and policy development to ensure standardization across the enterprise.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools to modernize AR operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, including managers and individual contributors within the AR function.
- Build organizational capability through succession planning, talent development, and performance management practices.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence.
- Serve as a key liaison with insurance carriers and external partners, resolving systemic issues and improving remittance processes.
- Collaborate closely with Treasury, Accounts Payable, Communications, Accounting, Operations, IT, Business Development, and other functions to drive alignment and resolution of process gaps.
- Oversee AR-related month-end close activities, including reserves, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness of financial information related to cash applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive experience in Accounts Receivable or shared services operations, including leadership of large, multi-site teams
- Demonstrated experience leading transformation initiatives, automation, and process optimization
- Strong expertise in AR processes, internal controls, compliance, and financial reporting standards
- Proven ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels, influencing senior leadership
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365), AR platforms, and workflow/ticketing systems
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to drive change in a complex, fast-paced environment
