Job Specific Duties & Tasks
- Co-Advise the University of Iowa’s Dance Marathon, a student-run organization that provides emotional and financial support for oncology patients treated at University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital and their families.
- Assist in developing and implementing UI Dance Marathon procedures documentation for all areas of the organization.
- Assist in the development of learning outcomes and conduct assessments of students participating in UI Dance Marathon and student leaders.
- Facilitate the organization of annual goal-setting.
- Oversee all public relations and marketing efforts of the organization. With a focus on branding, ensuring students are following university policies, educating student on social media, and overseeing the management of our website.
- Collaborate with the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between CMN and UI Dance Marathon.
- Serve as permanent secretary of the UI Dance Marathon Allocations Committee, a group responsible for reviewing program funding requests and disbursing funds raised by UI Dance Marathon.
- Work with GA’s, practicum students, and student hourly employees as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Work experience (typically 6 months or more) as a paraprofessional or professional in higher education & student affairs, or experience with event planning, program management, marketing, or fundraising.
- Professional experience with creating a welcoming and respectful work environment.
- Extensive understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals.
- Working experience with standard office computer applications.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience working in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life and campus activities programming.
- Extensive experience in event management processes and activities; ability to plan, organize and execute large student life or other medium to large-scale events and to coordinate resources before, during and after an event.
- Basic knowledge of organizational practices or strategies for communicating or marketing to establish favorable public relations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with community partners; preferably within the greater Iowa City community.
- Knowledge of processes, methods and tools for creating and maintaining accurate and thorough financial reports.
- Extensive leadership experience with a student organization; preferably Dance Marathon.
