Senior Requirements Engineer (SysEng SW) – Kiel | Hybrid

We are partnering with a globally recognised, high-tech engineering organisation at the forefront of complex software and systems development. Operating in a highly regulated, precision-critical environment, the company is known for its engineering depth, structured delivery culture, and long-term project stability.

This is a rare opportunity to join a team in active build-up, with two further positions and a Director coming on board, meaning you will help shape how requirements engineering is practiced across the organisation from the ground up.

Location: Kiel

Home Office: 2–3 days per week

Contract: AÜG | 24 months

Start: ASAP

Salary: €85,000 – €110,000 p.a. (dependent on profile)

Languages: German (C2 / native level) and English (business fluent) — both mandatory

Security Clearance: SÜ2 will be initiated by the client during the assignment. Candidates do not need to hold an active clearance at the time of application. Please note that nationality restrictions apply.

The Role

This is a technically-oriented requirements engineering position sitting at the interface between Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Development Teams — not a classic business analyst function. Your core task is taking requirements from internal customers and translating them into precise, implementable technical specifications.

The key challenge in this role is handling unclear, missing, or contradictory requirements. You will be expected to work through ambiguity, resolve conflicts between stakeholders, and consistently arrive at clear, structured outcomes. The ability to drive change and convince stakeholders — even against resistance — is essential.

Responsibilities include:

Translating customer problems into technical specifications and functional concepts (Fachkonzepte); eliciting, validating, and documenting requirements; supporting agile delivery teams with EPICs and Solution Requirements; conducting reverse engineering of existing requirements; building and maintaining a structured requirements database; ensuring end-to-end traceability and testability; and actively developing the team's requirements engineering methodology.

What Sets This Role Apart

You will be working on technically complex, high-impact systems in a stable long-term environment, alongside experienced DevOps and platform engineering teams. You are not inheriting a finished process — you are helping build one. If requirements engineering matters to you as a discipline rather than a box-ticking exercise, the environment here will suit you.

Your Background

You bring a degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a comparable field, combined with 6+ years of experience in software development and requirements management. A senior profile is an absolute requirement.

On the technical side, you have practical exposure to platform and DevOps environments, including CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins), virtualisation platforms (VMware, XCP-ng), and container technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes). Active coding is not a requirement, but strong software affinity and a solid understanding of development processes are essential.

Backgrounds in SysEng SW or requirements engineering are equally welcome.

You are highly structured, analytically strong, collaborative, and proactive. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and are comfortable operating in a matrix organisation.

Nice to have: IREB certification; experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.

Please note: Profiles must be accompanied by Arbeitszeugnisse documenting relevant professional experience. Submissions without supporting certificates cannot be progressed.

Interview Process

Round 1 — Teams call (60 min): background, motivation, and role understanding. Round 2 — Case study session (90 min): in-depth with the specialist department, including a practical exercise focused on handling ambiguous requirements and matrix stakeholder management.
