Growth Marketing Operator
Indexed description
FENX is a Charleston-based growth marketing agency. We work with our partners on paid media, email, CRO, landing pages, and increasingly on AI-enabled marketing operations.
We're a small team running fast, and are hiring someone who's going to be at the center of what we're building.
This is not a normal entry-level role. The pay is calibrated to early career. The work, leverage, and ownership are not. You will own real client accounts & real revenue. If you take this seat seriously, the first 18 months will compound your career faster than several years at a bigger agency.
Within 90 days, you should be running a client account end to end. Strategy, paid media, email, creative direction, reporting, the client relationship, the math.
Within 6 months, you're running multiple accounts and have ownership of at least one cross-cutting internal system (could be our reporting infrastructure, our automation stack, our AI marketing ops product, our case studies, or whatever you're best at).
Within 12 months, we're looking at whether you can plausibly run a piece of this company.
A real week looks like:
- Diagnosing why a Meta campaign is underperforming and shipping a fix the same day
- Creating 10 new ad variants in the morning and getting them live in the afternoon
- Pushing back on a client's roadmap with data they hadn't considered
- Rebuilding a Klaviyo email automation from scratch because you identifed that the current one wasn't performing
- Setting up an AI automation that kills a piece of busywork you don't want to do tomorrow
- Telling your manager when something they asked for is the wrong move
The traits that matter most:
- Critical thinking. You don't just execute, you reason through why something should be done before doing it.
- Logical. You can think through a problem in steps, work the math, and explain your reasoning to a client without hand-waving.
- Proactive. You understand the goals, see what needs to happen and start on it. You don't wait to be told.
- Problem solver. When something breaks or stalls, you figure out how to fix it. The job is solving problems for clients all day. If that energizes you, this is the right place.
- Strong written communication. Communication skills are critical: to clients, to the team, to platforms, in copy. You should be good at it.
- Daily AI user. You use AI tools every day in your work and have opinions about them. Not as a novelty, as part of how you actually operate.
Bonus, not required:
- A few years in paid media or digital marketing
- Hands-on experience with any of: Google Ads, Meta Ads, Klaviyo, HubSpot, Shopify
- You've built automations, agentic workflows, or projects in Claude / ChatGPT / Cowork that go beyond casual chat use. If you've set up custom projects with context files, multi-step automations, or used AI to actually replace meaningful work, that's a real signal.
- You've shipped something nobody asked you to build. A site, a tool, a Substack, a side project. Anything that shows you don't need permission to start.
What we don't need:
- A specific degree
- Agency experience (sometimes it's a positive, sometimes it's not)
- A neat linear career path
- This isn't for people who want a strict 9-5. The people who thrive here work hard. Not because we are tracking hours, but because the work is interesting enough and the stakes are real enough that you should want to. If you're checking the clock at 4:55, this isn't the right seat.
- This isn't for people who measure productivity in hours. We measure it in outcomes shipped and revenue moved.
- This isn't for people who are uncomfortable with AI. It makes the modern version of this job possible.
- This isn't for people who need a lot of process to be productive.
- This isn't for people who can't take or give direct feedback. Transparent feedback is how you get better quickly.
- Real ownership of real client work from week one
- A small, fast-moving team where you're not buried under layers
- Competitive base pay calibrated to early career experience, plus performance bonuses tied to outcomes you actually own.
- A clear path to senior responsibility and meaningful upside as the business grows. This isn't a corporate once a year performance review with a cost of living raise environment.
Send us two things:
1. A 2 to 3 minute video where you:
- Tell us who you are and why FENX specifically (not "I want to work in marketing")
- Pick one of these and give me your honest take:
- Audit fenxdigital.com. Three things you'd change first and why.
- Walk me through an AI workflow, automation, or project you've built that goes beyond casual chat use. How it works, what it does for you, and what you'd build next if you had time.
- Pick any DTC e-commerce brand, tell us what their #1 growth lever is, and how you'd execute against it.
2. A short note (a paragraph or two) telling us what you've shipped or built that nobody asked you to. Link / include it if you can.
