Position Summary
The Manager, Fleet Operations is responsible for overseeing day-to-day transportation and dispatch operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of all shipments. This role provides leadership, guidance, and operational oversight to dispatchers, drivers, and supporting staff, ensuring alignment with company objectives, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
The Manager plays a key role in managing real-time operational challenges such as equipment breakdowns, accidents, and staffing call-ins, while maintaining service continuity and supporting overall regional transportation performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the dispatch team, including planning and assigning daily workloads
- Coordinate inbound and outbound freight flow while maintaining visibility of daily priorities and weekly transportation targets
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members to support continuous improvement
- Plan and schedule staff across all shifts to ensure 24-hour operational coverage aligned with volume requirements
- Support dispatchers and front-line supervisors in resolving day-to-day operational challenges
- Monitor service levels, operational metrics, and KPIs to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded
- Review weekly operational reports and adjust resources as required
- Ensure required training and certifications are maintained
- Act as the primary operational contact for billing and payroll issues
- Promote and enforce safety, compliance, and company standards
- 3–5 years of experience in transportation operations, dispatch management, or related roles
- Transportation or logistics industry experience
- College diploma or equivalent experience
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with staff scheduling in variable-volume operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of transportation cargo claims, laws, and risk management
- Understanding of the Highway Traffic Act, Hours of Service, TDG, and weight restrictions
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
