We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager / Lead Engineer with a strong technical foundation and leadership mindset to guide a cross-functional team. You’ll be responsible for team performance, predictable delivery, and engineering quality, while still contributing to architecture and code where it matters most.
You’ll report to the Engineering Director and work closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to drive meaningful business impact.
In this role you will:
Team Leadership & People Development
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team (4–9 engineers), providing clear direction, focus, and context
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineers through continuous feedback and performance conversations
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence
- Ensure accountability for outcomes, quality, and predictable delivery
Delivery & Execution
- Own end-to-end delivery, including planning, prioritisation, and dependency management
- Proactively manage risks, remove blockers, and ensure timely execution
- Partner with Product to define roadmaps and OKRs
- Communicate progress, trade-offs, and outcomes to stakeholders
Technical Leadership (hands-on ~40%)
- Contribute to architecture, prototypes, and critical code paths
- Validate technical solutions across service design, integrations, and data models
- Ensure alignment between technical initiatives and product priorities
Engineering Excellence
- Continuously improve engineering practices (code reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management)
- Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems following clean architecture principles
- Drive performance optimisation and cost efficiency
- Champion modern development practices, including AI-assisted workflows
The skills you bring:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of people management experience with ownership of team outcomes
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality software in a predictable way
- Strong experience in system design and distributed architectures
- Ability to balance process and pragmatism — improving quality without adding unnecessary complexity
- Experience with modern cloud environments (AWS or similar), CI/CD, and containerisation
- Familiarity with observability and operational excellence practices
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (English required; German is a plus)
- Curiosity and adaptability to quickly learn new technologies and domains

Our primary stack includes C#, Node.js, TypeScript, AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate), Docker, GitHub, CircleCI, and Terraform.

This is not an incremental improvement project, it is a full-scale architectural transformation from scratch, and you will be at the center of it.
Your team owns the foundation the entire business runs on. You will drive decisions affecting millions of data rows, shape services handling thousands of requests per second, and guide engineers through hard problems like sharded PostgreSQL at terabytes scale and high-throughput distributed systems.
This role is for a leader who wants real ownership, deep product domain involvement, and technical depth that most EM positions never get close to.
