Two independent trustees

TRUSTEES WANTED!
Do you have a few hours to spare and professional skills you’d like to put to good use? Are you looking for a meaningful, rewarding way to make a difference in your community? Peterborough Sailability is seeking two new independent trustees to help guide the governance of our inspiring charity. You don’t need to be a sailor — just someone who cares about improving the lives of people living with disabilities.
About the charity
Peterborough Sailability is a volunteer-led charity based at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. We enable people with disabilities to experience the freedom, challenge, and wellbeing benefits of sailing.
Since launching in 2006, we have grown into one of the region’s leading inclusive sailing programmes. We are affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and proud recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, the charity goes from strength to strength. Each year, we deliver more than 3,000 sailing sessions, supporting over 200 disabled sailors with the help of 60 active volunteers.
One of our core values is having fun! Whatever our role, we ensure we have fun together and enjoy what we do.
About the role
Our friendly, professionally-run Board of Trustees ensures that Peterborough Sailability is run safely and legally, with a focus on strategy, performance, and assurance.
Our trustees work together to make sure we manage money well, follow our policies and relevant legislation, act as custodians of our boats and equipment, manage risks and help the charity to operate well, today and in the future.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for individuals who reflect our values, who are committed to good governance and who can contribute specific skills, and interests to support Sailability’s continued improvement.
Our lawyer trustee has recently retired and we are looking for an individual with a legal background to take his place. In addition, we are seeking another individual ideally with knowledge of our local community and / or local businesses.
What difference will you make?
At its heart, we are here to help put a smile on the faces of our disabled clients. Trustees support our volunteers to deliver a fantastic sailing programme to our clients and their carers, while having fun, making new friends, and learning new skills themselves.
Time Commitment
Board meetings are currently held in the afternoons during normal working hours. The expected time commitment is 4 Board meetings per year, lasting approximately 2 hours each. Approximately 1 to 2 hours’ reading time is generally needed to prepare for each meeting.
In addition, an Annual General Meeting and annual meeting of all volunteers is held once a year, which lasts for a full day. Attendance at other meetings, working groups or subcommittees may be requested from time to time.
We are looking for individuals who can support us for a minimum term of 3 years.
