Position Summary
We are seeking a Director of Operations to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of shop operations within a high-performance service and repair environment for power generation equipment. This role oversees mechanical and electrical repair operations, machining, manufacturing engineering, materials management, and facility maintenance. The Director ensures operational excellence through rigorous quality standards, technical precision, and alignment with customer requirements and strategic business goals. This position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement, maintaining production capacity, and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery. The Director will manage an annual operating budget and lead initiatives that support business growth, technical innovation, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties
- Lead and manage all shop operations, including mechanical and electrical service teams, machining, and materials logistics.
- Develop and implement robust operational systems that ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality benchmarks.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to resolve complex repair challenges and ensure technical accuracy in service execution.
- Oversee facility and equipment maintenance to ensure readiness and reliability for high-precision repair work.
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to production volume, quality metrics, schedule adherence, and customer satisfaction.
- Build and maintain a technically skilled workforce through training, mentorship, and partnerships with technical schools and universities.
- Provide detailed monthly reporting on operational performance, including budget variances, production metrics, workforce utilization, and capital improvements.
Education And Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Degree in Engineering or a related technical field strongly preferred.
- Advanced training or certifications in operations management, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or quality systems are a plus.
- Minimum 15 years of senior leadership experience in a manufacturing or custom repair services environment, preferably involving large-scale rotating equipment.
- Strong preference for experience with OEM-level service of large-frame steam and gas turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Proven expertise in quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001), root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action processes.
- Deep understanding of ERP systems (Oracle EBS preferred) and PDM tools in a service-oriented business model.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and networked systems for data acquisition, reporting, and operational analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing cross-functional technical teams and driving performance in a high-stakes environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a focus on customer satisfaction and technical excellence.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve strategic and operational goals.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
