Job Objectives: To assist the Occupational Therapist in all areas.

Minimum Qualifications: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, licensed by the State of Oklahoma and certified by the National Board of Certification Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Six to twelve months of directly related experience in pediatrics.

Prefer one or more years experience in a public school setting.

Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Assist in identification of students through screenings and the initial referral for occupational therapy services
  • Assist with collecting data for assessments; make recommendations for intervention and modifications of treatment/goals (with OTR supervision) and act as an IEP team member.
  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services under the direction of the OTR.
  • Document all services provided and file appropriate Medicaid claim forms on assigned date to the Special Services Center.
  • Consult with classroom staff, other service providers, parents, and medical personnel regarding the therapeutic management of students.
  • Provide in-service programs for school personnel regarding implementation of modalities included in the student’s IEP (i.e. transfer techniques, body mechanics, student positioning/equipment, sensory diets, adaptive equipment, etc)
  • Provide clinical instruction for students in Occupational Therapy Assistant programs.
  • Attend workshops and continuing education courses to grow in knowledge and understanding of special needs students in the public school setting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Help maintain safe therapy work areas.

Skills And Abilities Required

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and licensed by the State of Oklahoma and certified by NBCO for credentials.
  • Must hold valid Oklahoma license.
  • Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions, and respond to inquiries, including filling out forms.
  • Read and interpret routine written or printed materials such as medical records/charts, diagrams, instructional material.
  • Use specialized equipment with expertise acquired through extensive experience and/or training, within their scope of practice.
