Finance Officer
Indexed description
In March 2023, Fitness Playground became One Playground. This change represents our move beyond just fitness, and aesthetics, to become an all-encompassing Playground for all things health and fitness.
ONE PLAYGROUND PHILOSOPHY
We believe that Gyms must get better at taking care of their members. Our philosophy is “If we take care of our staff, they will take care of our members”.
This philosophy has been a critical driver for the growth of One Playground and our people over the past 12 years. It has led us to grow to a team of over 450 across 7 locations, and we are proud to be consistently recognised as one of Australia's best places to work.
Our accolades include being rated Top 50 Places to Work in Australia, 2019 & 2020 Employer of Choice Award, AFR Best Places to Work, 2021, FITSummit Boutique of the Year 2022 and 2023 and 2024 ABA100® Winner for Training Excellence.
WHAT ARE WE?
At One Playground, we are committed to creating the best gyms, not the most gyms.
We are a new kind of gym, a ‘super-boutique’, giving members complete access to a ‘one-stop-shop’ of fitness and wellness.
Our mission is to defy expectations by offering award-winning designs, fostering connected communities, providing a wide range of classes, and employing exceptional individuals who are passionate about what they do.
Alongside our purpose to “Inspire Change”, One Playground has a strong set of 6 core values.
We are “One Team”, of “Great Humans”, who get “Better Every Day”, working on “Mastering Our Craft”, so we can “Design the Future” and, most importantly, “Do Cool Sh*t!”
If this sounds like a workplace culture that resonates with you, we would love you to apply to become part of the team.
THE ROLE
As our Finance Officer, you'll be the operational backbone of the finance team, the person who keeps it all moving and accurate.
You'll process the invoices, prepare the payment runs, own the bank reconciliations, and make sure the Finance Manager and broader team always have clean, reliable data to work from.
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility, the quality of your work directly shapes the quality of everything above it.
If you take pride in tidy books, want to be the person everyone trusts to get it right, and are looking to grow your finance career inside a fast-scaling business, this is where you do it.
Your Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Expense Management
- Process and code inbound invoices and prepare payment runs for Finance Manager approval.
- Maintain supplier records, onboard new vendors, reconcile statements monthly and resolve queries.
- Run the staff card program in Weel and process reimbursement requests in line with policy.
- Collate and check timesheet data each pay run, and maintain employee records (new starters, terminations, leave and super).
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and compliance across all entities and pay cycles.
- Help land the transition to a new payroll platform, from data entry to parallel runs.
- Run regular bank recs across all entity accounts and match transactions.
- Investigate unreconciled items and escalate discrepancies clearly.
- Keep transaction records accurate and current to support month-end.
- Support month-end and year-end close, journals, workpapers and schedules.
- Help drive the annual budget by prepping templates and gathering inputs from department heads.
- Pitch in on financial reports, management packs and ad hoc analysis as needed.
- Keep financial records, filing and documentation organised across the function.
- Help document, systematise and continuously improve key finance processes.
- Pitch in on ad hoc finance projects and tasks as directed.
- You have a genuine interest in health, fitness & wellness.
- You take pride in clean, accurate work, and people trust your numbers because of it.
- You're a proactive problem solver who takes ownership and follows through without needing to be chased.
- You communicate clearly and professionally with suppliers, staff and the wider team.
- You enjoy bringing order to messy data and finding better ways to do things.
- You're motivated by growth, both in your technical capability and as part of a fast-scaling business.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in an accounts, bookkeeping or finance officer role (ideally across a multi-entity or multi-site business).
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, bank reconciliations and payroll processing end-to-end.
- Confident with cloud-based accounting platforms (Xero or similar) and comfortable picking up new systems quickly. Experience with Weel or a similar expense platform is a plus.
- Solid Excel skills, you can build a workbook, not just read one.
- Studying towards or holding a relevant qualification (Cert IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping, Diploma, Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, or progressing through CA/CPA) is highly regarded.
- Work in a world-class gym environment like no other.
- Free gym membership & access to every One Playground location.
- Join a company that’s going through rapid growth.
- A workplace where you can make an impact and grow, professionally and personally.
If this excites you, apply with your resume and a short cover letter telling us why this role is the right fit.
