Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Develops and maintains sound working relationship with all University Hospital departments regarding hospital maintenance, construction, safety, emergency operations and other hospital operation issues as required or directed by the Executive Directo
- Establishes, preserves, and maintains good partnering engagement with all University Hospital departments, in support of all project assignments.
- Manages the development of a strategic space information system, oversees needs assessments and the development of space use recommendations and solutions.
- Assists in the management of various projects and directs the maintenance, construction, and repair of hospital related buildings and various offsite occupancies.
- Plans and directs the maintenance, inspection, and repair of a variety of complex non-medical and medical equipment.
- Plans, assigns, and directs internal construction jobs.
- Manages all aspects of the hospital utility systems, including scheduled maintenance, testing, and improvements. Systems include, but are not limited to, Electrical Distribution, Medical Gases, Steam, Domestic Hot and Cold Water, and HVAC systems.
- Interviews, supervises, supports, and motivates the Hospital’s Physical Plant staff.
- Provides effective safety awareness and trade related training programs.
- Develops and recommends updates to departmental policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
- Assists in identifying key issues and action programs for staffing, training, safety, labor relations, energy conservation, customer service, capital renewal, productivity, affirmative action compliance, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facility Management or a related field required.
- Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible experience in facilities’ operations, maintenance, and/or construction required, preferably in a healthcare environment
- Experience should include at least three (3) years at supervisory/managerial level and experience in construction planning and management.
- Must possess experience in preparing for and leading EOC surveys such as those conducted by the Joint Commission, Department of Health, CMS, and local authorities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of trades such as Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, etc. a plus.
- Must have the ability to function in and support a team environment.
- Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience in participating in emergency preparedness activities preferred.
