The Account Manager (AM) is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong, professional relationships with clients by delivering exceptional customer service and ongoing support. This role manages an assigned book of business consisting of fully insured and level-funded clients, ensuring their benefit programs align with organizational needs and expectations.
As an AM you will build trust through responsiveness, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to client service. In addition to managing existing accounts, this position will support Agents in both new business development, the renewal process, contributing to overall growth, and client retention. Serving as a dedicated advocate, the AM will work closely with carriers and vendors to resolve issues and ensure a seamless experience for clients and their employees. This includes assisting with claims inquiries, billing discrepancies, and enrollment processes, while continuously expanding industry knowledge to better educate and support clients.
Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies
- Serve as the primary contact for clients, producers, and carriers, delivering exceptional service and resolving issues related to claims, billing, and enrollment
- Lead the renewal and marketing process by gathering data, obtaining quotes, evaluating carrier options, and partnering with Producers to present strategic benefit recommendations
- Calculate premiums, audit billing for accuracy, and resolve discrepancies while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Develop open enrollment materials and conduct employee presentations with clear, effective communication
- Process enrollments and ensure smooth implementations or carrier transitions with strong organizational and time management skills
- Maintain accurate client records and manage workflow efficiently, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Stay current on carrier updates and regulatory changes, supporting client compliance and demonstrating adaptability in a dynamic environment
- Build and maintain strong carrier and client relationships with a collaborative, client-focused approach
- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a proactive mindset, including participation in training and continuous process improvement initiatives
Experience and Education:
- Experience in employee benefits and account management insurance field
- A strong understanding of current employee benefits, regulations, and industry standards
- Experience and knowledge in Compliance pertaining to employee benefits
- Experience with fully insured financial arrangements and alternate-funding methods preferred
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
Licensing and Credentials:
- Active Life & Health License required
Systems:
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Applied Epic experience preferred, but knowledge of similar Account Management System (AMS) is acceptable
Requirements:
- This is a full-time, in-office position requiring regular, onsite attendance
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds as needed
- Frequent use of visual acuity to review documents and computer screens
- Regular use of hearing and verbal communication for phone and in-person interactions
- Repetitive hand movements, including typing, writing, and use of office equipment
- Ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional walking, bending, reaching, and stretching as part of daily tasks
