1. POSITION OVERVIEW
The ERP Director leads the Hospital’s ERP strategy, governance, and performance, driving enterprise-wide digital transformation and aligning technology investments with organizational goals. This role oversees all ERP domains to ensure systems deliver value across clinical, operational, and administrative functions.
A key priority is leading the migration from SAP ECC 6 to SAP S/4HANA while ensuring business continuity and operational excellence throughout the transition.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Define and own the long-term ERP roadmap in alignment with the Hospital's corporate and clinical strategy.
- Establish enterprise-level ERP governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure platform integrity and compliance.
- Advise executive leadership and the Board on ERP-related risks, opportunities, and investment requirements.
- Manage relationships with key technology vendors, system integrators, and strategic partners.
- Champion the adoption of emerging technologies and industry best practices across the ERP landscape.
2.2 Program & Portfolio Management
- Oversee the full ERP project portfolio — from business case development through delivery and benefits realization.
- Direct high-level program governance for major transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Manage executive-level stakeholder reporting, providing clear visibility into programme status, risks, and escalation items.
- Ensure robust risk management processes are embedded across all ERP programs and workstreams.
2.3 Organizational Change Management
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide change management strategies for major ERP initiatives.
- Champion a culture of readiness and adaptability, engaging senior clinical and administrative leaders as active change sponsors.
- Oversee stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and organizational impact assessments.
- Ensure effective training strategies are in place to drive user adoption and sustainable capability uplift.
- Measure and report change adoption outcomes to ensure business benefits are fully realized post-go-live.
2.4 Business Alignment & Value Realization
- Work closely with C-Suite and departmental heads (Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Clinical Operations) to translate business needs into ERP capabilities.
- Define, track, and report on key performance indicators that demonstrate ERP-generated value to the enterprise.
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives enabled by the ERP platform across key hospital functions.
- Ensure financial stewardship of the ERP portfolio, including budget ownership, cost optimization, and ROI accountability.
2.5 Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing ERP team comprising functional leads, technical architects, and project managers.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented team culture anchored in accountability, continuous learning, and innovation.
- Establish succession planning and talent development pathways for critical ERP roles.
- Manage third-party service providers, ensuring delivery quality and contractual compliance.
2.6 Operations, Security & Compliance
- Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of all ERP systems in a 24/7 healthcare environment.
- Maintain compliance with relevant healthcare regulations, data privacy legislation, and audit requirements.
- Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity planning for all ERP platforms.
- Enforce cybersecurity standards and data governance protocols across all ERP environments.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
3.1 Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree strongly preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in ERP leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior or director-level capacity.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, enterprise-wide ERP programs in large and matrixed organizations.
- Proven track record of leading end-to-end ERP transformation programs from strategy to go-live and benefit realization.
- Deep expertise across SAP functional domains relevant to hospital operations, including Materials Management (MM), Finance & Controlling (FICO), and Human Resources (HR).
- Recognized ability to drive organizational change and lead executive-level stakeholder engagement.
- Experience operating within — or directly serving — the healthcare or public sector is highly desirable.
3.2 Technical & Functional Competencies
- Broad knowledge of SAP ECC 6 architecture and SAP S/4HANA capabilities and migration pathways.
- Familiarity with SAP Activate methodology and cloud/hybrid deployment models.
- Understanding of enterprise integration frameworks, data migration strategies, and system landscape management.
- Working knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, COBIT, or equivalent.
3.3 Hospital Digital Landscape & Enterprise Architecture
The ERP Director must possess a broad understanding of the full hospital technology ecosystem to ensure ERP strategy is developed and executed in the context of the wider digital environment. This includes:
3.3.1 Hospital Information Systems & Clinical Applications
- Comprehensive understanding of the Hospital Information System (HIS) architecture, its clinical workflows, and its interdependencies with back-office ERP functions (billing, procurement, HR, finance).
- Awareness of clinical and operational systems that co-exist alongside ERP — including Pharmacy, Laboratory (LIS), Radiology (RIS/PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EPR), Patient Administration Systems (PAS), and Nursing & Ward Management systems.
- Ability to map how in-house and third-party applications interact with core ERP modules to identify risks, redundancies, and opportunities for rationalization or optimization.
- Understanding of the role of Master Data Management (MDM) across clinical and non-clinical systems — including patient, vendor, asset, and employee data domains.
3.3.2 Enterprise Integration & Interoperability
- Solid understanding of enterprise integration concepts, patterns, and platforms — including middleware, ESB (Enterprise Service Bus), API gateways, and event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and DICOM as they relate to data exchange between clinical and administrative systems.
- Ability to assess and govern integration landscapes connecting ERP to HIS, third-party vendors, government reporting platforms, insurance/payer systems, and external laboratories or diagnostic services.
- Experience overseeing data flow design, interface governance, and end-to-end data integrity across integrated systems.
- Capable of evaluating integration risk during major platform transitions (e.g., ERP upgrades) and ensuring interface continuity across the application portfolio.
3.3.3 Infrastructure Awareness
- Sufficient understanding of IT infrastructure concepts to engage credibly with infrastructure architects, cloud engineers, and vendors on matters affecting ERP performance and availability.
- Working knowledge of server environments, virtualization, storage, and networking concepts relevant to enterprise application hosting.
- Familiarity with cloud and hybrid deployment models (on-premise, private cloud, public cloud, SaaS) and their implications for ERP architecture and data residency.
- Ability to participate in infrastructure capacity planning discussions — including high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements for mission-critical hospital systems.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles as they apply to ERP and connected hospital systems, including access control, network segmentation, and data encryption standards.
3.4 Leadership & Behavioural Competencies
- Strategic thinking — ability to translate organizational vision into actionable ERP strategy and roadmaps.
- Executive communication — skilled at presenting complex technology matters to non-technical senior leaders, Boards, and clinical staff.

- Collaboration & influence — able to build consensus across diverse, often competing, organizational stakeholders.
- Resilience & decisiveness — comfortable making high-stakes decisions in a complex and regulated environment.
4. PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
While not mandatory, the following certifications are considered advantageous for this role:
- SAP Certified Professional (e.g., SAP S/4HANA or SAP Enterprise Architect)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) — PMI, or PRINCE2 Practitioner
- PROSCI Change Management Certification or equivalent
- ITIL 4 Managing Professional or Strategic Leader
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) — advantageous
