The next President & CEO for the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce (HJCC) is a relationship-driven executive leader with experience in membership and stakeholder engagement, a strong background in nonprofit and association management, and demonstrated financial and organizational leadership capability.
Position Overview
HJCC is a member-driven nonprofit dedicated to strengthening business, economic, and cultural ties between Hawai‘i and Japan, seeks a dynamic and relationship-driven President & CEO. This high-impact leadership role will guide the organization’s strategic direction, oversee day-to-day operations, and serve as the primary ambassador to members, partners, and the broader community. Reporting to the Chairman and Board of Directors, the President & CEO will play a key role in advancing HJCC’s mission of “Members Supporting Members” while positioning the organization for long-term growth and relevance.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Board to shape and execute strategic priorities and ensure strong governance
- Lead membership growth, engagement, and retention efforts
- Build and maintain relationships with members, stakeholders, and community partners
- Oversee daily operations, financial management, and long-term organizational sustainability
- Drive fundraising and resource development initiatives
- Lead and develop a small team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
- Serve as chief spokesperson and strengthen HJCC’s brand and external partnerships
- Represent the organization across key community and affiliated boards and organizations

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of executive-level leadership experience
- Experience leading complex organizations with multiple stakeholders
- Background in nonprofit, membership-based, or association environments
- Demonstrated financial management and organizational leadership capability
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel
- Familiarity with Japanese business culture and etiquette is a plus (Japanese language fluency not required)
