Intermediate Architect – South Norwalk, CT 3+ Years Experience | Urban Infill | Landmarks | Multifamily & Commercial

About JL Architects

JL Architects is a lean, high-functioning studio with a strong and growing pipeline of work. Our projects are urban, rigorous, and contextually grounded — multifamily residential, commercial core and shell, and complex infill development across challenging zoning and regulatory environments. We navigate legalizations, landmark approvals, and tight urban sites with a clear, modern design sensibility and an equal commitment to constructability and economy.

Our studio is located in the heart of South Norwalk, steps from the Metro-North station.

The Role

We are looking for an Intermediate Architect to take on meaningful responsibility across all phases of practice. This is not a production-only role — you will contribute to design, documentation, consultant coordination, and client communication from day one. You will grow alongside the firm.

This is primarily an in-office position with flexibility for work/life balance.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)
  • 3–6 years of professional experience in an architecture firm
  • Experience with commercial core and shell and/or multifamily residential in an urban infill context
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Strong 3D modeling, rendering, and presentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Revit proficiency (we are actively transitioning to BIM workflows and this is a near-term priority)
  • Familiarity with NYC zoning and building code
  • Experience with LPC (Landmarks Preservation Commission) submissions — this is a significant plus
  • ARE completion or active progress toward licensure

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range $70,000–$85,000 commensurate with experience
  • Monthly health insurance stipend (QSEHRA)
  • 15 days PTO plus federal holidays and end-of-year studio closure
  • Continuing education and ARE support
