Setting Out Engineer
Location :Berlin
Salary : €60-70K plus package
We are currently looking for a setting out engineer to work for a leading irish developer on a large scale data centre project.
A Setting Out Engineer is responsible for taking design drawings and precisely marking their location on the ground, ensuring that all construction elements—from foundations to high-rise steel frames—are built in the correct position, level, and orientation. They serve as the crucial link between the design team and the construction workers on site.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Precise Setting Out: Utilizing survey instruments to mark out structural boundaries, including foundations, walls, columns, drainage, roads, and utilities.
- Surveying & Levelling: Checking site levels and conducting as-built surveys to verify that works are constructed according to specifications.
- Drawing Interpretation: Reviewing construction plans, blueprints, and BIM models to identify potential discrepancies before they occur on site.
- Equipment Management: Proficiently operating and calibrating equipment, such as robotic total stations, GPS, and laser levels.
- Quality Control (QA/QC): Monitoring construction progress to ensure compliance with quality standards, including concrete pre/post-pour checks.
- Liaison & Reporting: Working closely with site managers, subcontractors, and design teams, providing regular updates on progress.
- Health & Safety: Maintaining a high standard of health and safety, adhering to all site regulations.
Typical Requirements
- Education: A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience: Previous experience (often 2–5 years) in a similar site engineering or setting out role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD for checking dimensions and experience with survey software.
- Certifications: Valid Safe Pass and manual handling certifications are usually essential in Ireland.
- Attributes: Strong attention to detail, excellent spatial awareness, and strong communication skills.
