Senior Software Engineer
Indexed description
We're hiring on behalf of an established, alternative investment manager running several billion in AUM. The firm has been growing steadily for almost two decades and recently received a strategic investment to accelerate its next phase.
The quant team is small, resourceful, and sits at the center of how the firm makes investment decisions. They're hiring a software engineer to extend the data and software infrastructure that the investment and risk teams rely on, with a particular focus on risk management and capital allocation tools.
What you'll work on:
- Scope, design, and ship tools that directly support investment and risk decisions.
- Build and extend the data engineering stack, analytical tooling, and visualisation layer.
- Work end-to-end — from understanding what the investment team needs, to deploying the thing that solves it
- Integrate with the trading and portfolio management systems the firm relies on.
- Pick the right tools for the job; the team isn't dogmatic about frameworks.
The stack:
Python, SQL, Airflow, Datadog, GitHub, Terraform, Flask. Heavy on automation. Open to new tools where they earn their place.
Who we're looking for:
A well-rounded engineer — a Swiss army knife who can move comfortably across the stack, roll up their sleeves, and find solutions to whatever comes up. Specifically:
- 3+ years building production systems in Python and SQL
- Comfortable owning a problem end-to-end — scoping, building, shipping, iterating
- Pragmatic: the goal is to ship things that work, not chase 1-second latency optimisations
- Entrepreneurial — brings ideas, pushes them, doesn't wait for a ticket
- Collaborative and easy to work with in a small team
Why this role:
The team is small enough that what you build matters and visible enough that the business sees it. There's a steady pipeline of new projects. No ticket-driven culture, no rigid hierarchy, meritocratic by design.
