General Functions
This is technical and / or supervisory work performed in the field.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Engineering Inspector I
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Receives and responds to public inquiries and/or requests regarding inspections specific to the division to be conducted.
- Manage and track a project list of activities to be completed
- Interprets approved plans, specifications and regulations and applies them during field inspections.
- Performs other duties as required.
Supervises and / or performs inspection of projects assigned to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved design plans and specifications, and applicable regulations. Reads and interprets design plans and specifications. May make field changes that do not alter the scope and cost of construction. May schedule and observe contractor's materials, structure and process tests and evaluations. Required to maintain records and prepare inspector reports. May assume joint responsibility for supervising the inspection function in the absence of the assigned supervisor.
Work is performed with some independence under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineering Inspector I
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of engineering or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
Engineering Inspector II
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of appropriate engineering experience or construction experience based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of related education, training or experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and obtain a Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
Depending on area of assignment, must have satisfactorily completed the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or must complete within six months of entry into the position.
Must have the ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.
Preferences
Experience in any combination of the following: Construction, inspection, engineering plan (diagrams, blueprints, sketches, etc.) reading, permitting, right-of-way maintenance, construction equipment operation, and/or engineering coursework/education.

Salary Information
Pay Grade: 014 - From $23.19 to $30.14
