Sr. Staff Accountant

Essential Functions
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Manage grant lifecycle activities, including budget setup, expenditure tracking, revenue recognition, reporting, and closeout
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Prepare and review grant reimbursement requests, ensure invoices are submitted on time, and follow up on any delayed payments
- Prepare and submit financial reports to grantors, including state agencies such as the Oregon Health Authority (OHA)
- Collaborate with program managers to ensure proper use of restricted funds and alignment with approved budgets
- Track and reconcile multiple funding sources, including Medicaid (OHP), state general funds, grants, and contracts
- Assist with cost reporting, program-level financial analysis, and audit preparation
- Maintain documentation to support compliance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and funding requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls and financial accuracy
- Support external audits and grant monitoring reviews by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Provide guidance and training to staff on grant compliance, allowable costs, and financial processes
- Analyze financial data and provide clear, actionable insights to leadership and non-financial staff

- Ensures that any required certifications and/or licenses are kept current and renewed timely.
- Works independently as well as participates as a positive, collaborative team member.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit and grant accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles
- Experience managing federal, state, and/or Medicaid-funded grants and contracts
- Familiarity with Oregon Medicaid (OHP), OHA reporting, or similar state funding structures preferred
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory compliance reviews
- CPA or CMA certification a plus
- Experience in behavioral health, healthcare, or human services organizations
- Familiarity with cost reporting, encounter-based billing environments, and revenue cycle integration
- Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, MIP, NetSuite)
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, grant compliance, and financial reporting
- Knowledge of federal grant regulations and Oregon-specific funding requirements
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy and ability to continuously update knowledge and understanding
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff and to convey complex information clearly
This position is funded through a combination of grants, government funding, and insurance revenue. Funding levels may change over time and can affect staffing and business decisions.
