Indexed description

  • On-site position at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay. Health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus

You've built a career coaching young people — not simply instructing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means connecting with students, pushing them beyond their comfort zones, and refusing to accept mediocrity. Instruction is about content delivery. You've never been a content delivery mechanism.

Alpha operates one of the most unconventional educational models you'll encounter. Students don't sit in traditional rows listening to lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications at individualized speeds. The AI manages instructional delivery. Your role centers on facilitating life skills workshops that command the attention of K-8 learners, conducting motivation sessions that drive weekly learning target achievement, and maintaining high standards when students are tempted to underperform. Academic progress is automated. You own the human element.

This position offers meaningful upward trajectory, and that trajectory means expanded student impact. Guides who consistently achieve performance benchmarks (100% cohort attainment of weekly app objectives, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance to Lead Guide positions where they mentor other educators in refining their practice. Students remain the central focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for leaving your current position is mission-driven — transforming what a young person believes about their own potential — rather than resume-building, submit your application.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, concentration techniques, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify genuine skill acquisition rather than passive attendance
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% cohort achievement of weekly app progression targets
  • Leveraging narrative techniques, incentive systems (campus currency, competitive leaderboards), and individual rapport to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics with a goal of maintaining 90%+ ratings on student feedback surveys

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering traditional board-based lectures. Academic advancement happens through self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Supervising without engagement. While students work on computers, your role demands active involvement, not passive monitoring.
  • Compromising standards in response to student resistance. Test2Pass expectations remain consistent regardless of individual student circumstances during any given week.
  • Creating original curriculum materials. Workshop content and lesson frameworks are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the storytelling ability and presence that ensures genuine student learning.
  • Handling parent communications, admissions processes, or campus facility management. Those functions belong to separate roles.

Youth Counselor Key Responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% weekly academic objective completion while facilitating life skills workshops that earn satisfaction scores of 90% or higher.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) age students
  • Strong storytelling and facilitation skills — capacity to maintain child engagement for hour-long sessions
  • Available to work on-site at the Alpha campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader
  • Demonstrated history of excellence in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional domains)
  • Familiarity with self-paced or application-based learning models
