Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan and assign work, recommend selection, evaluate performance, train and develop, and take corrective actions for assigned dental clinic staff.
- Remain up to date on applicable laws and regulations in order to keep the program in compliance; ensure required credentialing and certifications are maintained.
- Provide oversight and management for tribal dental clinic operations including dental program planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of services, policies and procedures in cooperation with the Nisqually Tribal Dentists.
- Collaborate with the Business Office for referral processes and billing issues.
- Participate in health services planning through interaction with Tribal Health Board and planner as directed.
- Provide fiscal planning, development, review, monitoring, management and compliance of dental program annual budgets and grants, as assigned.
- Manage fiscal operations such as purchase orders, requisitions, and invoices.
- Identify staff development needs, research and select solutions, lead team building activities, and coordinate necessary trainings.
- Manage work schedules and organize specialty contractors and events.
- Represent the facility at governing boards and meetings as directed.
- Track performance measures and other programmatic data as required.
- Communicate regularly with members of the dental staff and department heads.
- Work as a liaison to off reservation providers in the development of health care referral network for tribal clinic.
- Oversee Quality Management Plan (QMP) in coordination with the staff Dentists; responsible for quality improvement and ensuring compliance with all Federal, Tribal, State managed care standards, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Attend annual conferences and trainings as needed to remain up to date on current dental clinic processes and standards.
- Improve efficiency and quality in the delivery of healthcare services.
- Responsible for contacting, working with IT and Electronic Dental Records (EDR) technicians, and managing Help tickets for dental program for timely resolution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American customs, traditions, and culture.
- Knowledge of Indian Health Service programs.
- Knowledge of dental clinic, Tribal, and other related policies, procedures, and systems.
- Knowledge of dental clinic operations.
- Knowledge of applicable laws regarding the practice of dental.
- Knowledge and skill in personnel supervision and management techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of patient safety practices and standards.
- Knowledge of Quality Improvement processes and methods.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other laws, rules, and regulations related to the security and confidentiality of data.
- Knowledge of electronic health records, systems, and related applications.
- Knowledge of dental reimbursement regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of dental prescription processing software systems.
- Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and budget management.
- Knowledge of and skill in using common computer software including MS Excel.
- Knowledge of program, policy and procedure development.
- Skill in planning, organizing, delegating, and supervising.
- Skill in gathering and interpreting data.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, the community, staff, and external agencies.
- Ability to research and prepare reports or other correspondence as required.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and exercise tact and good judgement in all contacts.
- Associate's Degree in health administration, business administration, or closely related field.
- Four years' recent related work experience.
- OR a comparable combination of approved education and/or recent related work experience.
- Experience in dental clinic operations, budget management, policy and procedure development, and program development.
- Experience leading, managing, and supervising staff.
