Software Development Technical Lead

Introduction:

We are seeking an experienced Software Technical Lead to provide hands-on technical leadership across the design, architecture, and delivery of mission-critical software solutions.

Reporting to the Software Development Manager, this is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports. You will lead through technical expertise, architectural decision-making, and direct contribution, working closely with engineers, product, and delivery teams to build robust, scalable, and maintainable systems.

A key focus of the role is the practical application of AI-assisted development technologies to improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and support modern engineering practices. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys staying technically current and shaping solutions in complex, real-world environments.

Description:

Key Responsibilities

• Own solution-level architecture and technical design for assigned systems and features
• Translate product and business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions
• Act as a senior hands-on contributor across design, development, optimisation, and remediation
• Lead delivery of complex or high-risk technical components
• Ensure architectural intent is clearly reflected in implementation and code quality
• Apply AI-assisted development tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, documentation, and refactoring
• Support and guide peers in the effective and responsible use of AI-enabled engineering practices
• Identify architectural risks early and propose pragmatic mitigation strategies
• Review designs and implementations to ensure long-term sustainability and alignment with standards
• Actively manage and reduce technical debt
• Contribute to architectural discussions and reviews with the Software Development Manager
• Maintain strong technical currency across modern software technologies, tools, and practices

Skills and Experiences:

About You

You are a technically strong, hands-on software professional who enjoys solving complex problems and influencing outcomes through engineering excellence rather than people management. You are comfortable working across teams and taking ownership of technical decisions.

You will bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
• 7-10 years of hands-on software development and architecture experience
• At least 2 years operating in a senior technical or technical lead capacity
• Strong experience designing and building distributed and scalable systems
• Proficiency in modern programming frameworks (experience with Angular, Node.js, and/or Go is advantageous)
• Experience with microservices, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud-based applications
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and database optimisation
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to hardware integration and IoT environments (preferred)
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools across the software lifecycle
• Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
