About the Ignition Lab

The Ignition Lab is a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where students engage in construction, engineering, and fabrication projects. Students actively build, problem-solve, and create—learning by doing.

Facilitators play a key role in guiding students through projects while reinforcing safe practices, proper tool use, and critical thinking. This role works closely with MINDDRIVE staff, integrating construction with broader engineering and fabrication programming.

Position Overview

The Ignition Lab is seeking a Construction Technology Facilitator to lead hands-on construction and trades-based learning experiences for middle and high school students. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building, mentoring, and working in a dynamic, project-based learning environment.

The facilitator will guide students as they develop foundational construction skills, explore careers in the building trades, and work on real-world projects. This position emphasizes both skill-building and helping students understand how various construction systems and trades come together on a jobsite.

  • Lead and support students in hands-on construction and building projects

  • Teach foundational skills including measuring, layout, carpentry, and safe tool use

  • Reinforce jobsite safety and maintain a safe, organized shop environment

  • Collaborate with MINDDRIVE staff on interdisciplinary projects

  • Assist with shop organization, tool maintenance, and project setup

  • Support after-school programs, workshops, and student showcases

  • Mentor students and help build confidence through hands-on learning experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction, carpentry, or related building trades

  • Experience leading projects, supervising teams, or coordinating build activities

  • Interest in teaching, mentoring, or working with youth

  • Ability to clearly explain concepts while working alongside students

  • Familiarity with construction tools and jobsite safety practices

  • Experience with residential construction, renovation, or project builds

  • Strong problem-solving skills and collaborative mindset

  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for hands-on learning

Additional training in safety curriculum, youth mentorship, and construction instruction is available.
