Position Overview
The Head of Strategy and M&A is responsible for shaping the strategic agenda of Nemetschek’s Design & Planning Division, with a particular focus on building needle-moving plays for end-markets, customers, products, and competitors. The leader will have a strong understanding of the AECO (architecture, engineering, construction, operations) market with strong expertise on M&A and work in conjunction with Nemetschek group strategy and M&A team.
The role also partners closely with the Design & Planning Division leadership team, including brand CEOs, CPOs, and commercial leaders, to translate insights into vision, portfolio strategy, product, and go-to-market decisions that support sustainable, profitable growth. The position requires a visionary leader who can engage with the architecture, engineering, and design industries globally to address challenges and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
- Build and own the market-insights backbone, incl. market size, macro drivers, customer insights and competitive landscape across the AEC/O design software space. Present the strategy to ELT in partnership with Design & Planning Division Leadership team
- Work collaboratively with Nemetschek group strategy team on overall Nemetschek strategy and leverage common elements like TAM, mega trends, etc.
- Translate market insights into strategic choices for portfolio, pricing, packaging, and regional focus
- Work hand-in-hand with product leadership to shape product and platform roadmaps, prioritizing initiatives based on market opportunity, customer value, and competitive differentiation.
- Collaborate closely with commercial leaders (sales, marketing, customer success) to design and refine go-to-market strategies
- Lead annual strategic planning cycles for the Design & Planning Division, aligning with Nemetschek Group strategy
- Work with business leaders from Design & Planning Division to define clear product, route-to-market and technology gaps per the strategy. Pressure test where the M&A lever can be accretive with a clear partner vs. build vs. buy strategy
- Develop and curate M&A asset pipeline and drive stakeholder alignment on priority assets for the Design & Planning Division. Bring a clear understanding of the assets in the lifecycle and progress assets that are actionable
- Drive strategic M&A direction aligned with division and corporate objectives
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscapes to inform strategic decisions
- Lead due diligence processes and integration planning for acquisitions and work with Corporate M&A teams to close deals
- Build and maintain relationships with potential acquisition targets and industry partners
- Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and corporate partners
- Represent the division at industry events, conferences, and strategic forums for strategic conferences
- Develop and nurture strategic partnerships that create value for customers and the business in partnership with Corporate Strategic partnerships leader
- Act as a thought leader and evangelist for the division's products and vision
- Build relationships with key stakeholders in architecture, engineering, and design communities
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategy and / or corporate development
- Proven track record in M&A evaluation and execution in software industry
- Understanding of the architecture, engineering, and design industry ecosystem
- Strategic thinking with ability to translate vision into actionable plans, short term and long term
- Strong analytical capabilities using data to drive decision-making
- Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities to align internal and external audiences
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership
- Track record of disrupting traditional approaches with innovative, client-centric solutions
