Confidential search on behalf of a leading global multi-manager platform

I'm partnering with a tier-one multi-strategy hedge fund on the launch of a new discretionary commodities franchise. The first hire, and the anchor for everything that follows is a Head of Energy.

The successful candidate will be given the capital, infrastructure and autonomy to build the desk from the ground up: defining the strategy, hiring the team, setting the risk framework, and establishing the return profile that the wider commodities business will be measured against.

The bigger picture

Energy is the entry point. Over the medium term, the platform intends to scale the franchise across the broader commodities complex softs, metals and adjacent verticals are already on the roadmap. The Head of Energy will play a central role in shaping that build-out and will sit at the centre of a business designed to grow into a flagship commodities offering inside the firm.

The mandate

• Design, launch and lead the discretionary energy portfolio
• Hire and develop a team of PMs, analysts and execution talent across crude, products, gas, power and emissions
• Build the alpha generation philosophy, risk framework and trading infrastructure in partnership with the platform
• Deliver consistent, capital-efficient, risk-adjusted returns within a multi-PM construct
• Act as the founding voice for the wider commodities franchise as it expands

Profile

• 10+ years in discretionary energy portfolio management at a tier-one hedge fund, bank prop desk or merchant trading house
• A demonstrable track record of building a function from scratch desk launch, team build-out, P&L ownership through cycles. This is the non-negotiable
• A history of running meaningful capital with consistent risk-adjusted returns across varied market regimes
• Deep network across the energy ecosystem and a proven ability to attract top-tier talent
• The commercial maturity to operate as a founding partner inside a multi-manager environment
