Chief of Staff

Compensation: $130,000–$220,000 + Competitive Equity

AI-Powered Government Technology Startup

New York City, NY — On-site (Flatiron)

About the Role:

State and local governments run on outdated technology — and this company is building the AI platform to change that. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners and led by a repeat founder who previously raised $13M and successfully exited in 2021, this 1-year-old startup is already seeing strong revenue traction with a team of just 5 people. The mission is straightforward and significant: make government wildly more effective through better technology.

This is a Chief of Staff role in the truest sense — you'll work directly with the founder across every dimension of the business, from high-level strategy and fundraising to the operational details that keep a fast-moving early-stage company running. No two days will look the same, and that's the point. You'll also play a central role in building an AI-native company from the inside — implementing cutting-edge AI tooling across operations to keep the team lean, fast, and scalable.

If you want to be in the room where decisions are made, own initiatives without hand-holding, and do work that genuinely shapes how government functions — this is a rare ground-floor opportunity.

What You'll Do

  • Work directly alongside the founder on all aspects of the company — from fundraising strategy to day-to-day operational execution
  • Take full ownership of key initiatives that help scale and run the business efficiently
  • Implement AI-native workflows and tooling (including Claude Code) across the entire organization to maximize the leverage of a small, high-impact team
  • Shape company growth by working closely with the founding team on strategic priorities, hiring, and business development
  • Help make government more effective by supporting the delivery of technology solutions to state and local government clients
  • Operate across functions — there is no narrow lane here; the scope expands with your ability

Why This Seat

  • Bessemer Venture Partners-backed, led by a repeat founder with a proven exit — this is a serious company at the earliest exciting stage
  • Team of 5, all in NYC and in-office — direct access to the founder and every key decision from day one
  • Already generating strong revenue at seed stage — this isn't a science project
  • You'll help build an AI-native organization from the ground up — AI tooling isn't an afterthought, it's a core operating principle
  • A genuine opportunity to improve how government works, at scale, with technology that matters
  • $130K–$220K base with competitive equity

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Have 4+ years of experience in product, operations, strategy, consulting, or a generalist operator role
  • Have worked at an early-stage (Seed to Series B) venture-backed tech startup and genuinely thrive in that environment — fast pace, longer hours, and high ambiguity are features, not bugs
  • Are enthusiastic about AI-native workflows and willing to actively learn and implement tools like Claude Code across operations
  • Are mission-driven and care about improving the public sector through technology
  • Have government or public sector exposure — through working in state/city agencies or at a consulting firm with a public sector practice (strong plus, not required)
  • Hold an undergraduate degree from a top 20 U.S. university, or have a strong track record at recognizable organizations

Nice-to-Haves

  • Direct experience working with state or local government clients or agencies
  • Background at a public sector-focused consulting firm (McKinsey Public Sector, Deloitte Government, BCG, etc.)
  • Prior experience as a generalist operator or Chief of Staff at a high-growth startup

What We Offer

  • $130,000–$220,000 base salary
  • Competitive equity
  • Free lunch on-site daily
  • Tight-knit team of 5 with direct founder access
  • Ground-floor opportunity at a mission-driven, VC-backed startup

Must-Haves (Logistics)

  • Located in New York City — on-site in Flatiron, 5 days/week (non-negotiable)
  • Work authorization — visa sponsorship NOT available
  • Early-stage startup experience (Seed to Series B, venture-backed)
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-native workflows and willingness to build with tools like Claude Code
  • Mission alignment — genuinely excited about improving government with technology
