We are partnering with an early-stage AI HealthTech company in Munich that is building an AI-first product with the potential to make a significant impact on healthcare systems.

The company is two years old, has raised $4.5m in funding, is already generating meaningful ARR, and is now entering a critical stage of growth. After moving quickly with a lean team and external technical support, they are now building their permanent internal engineering team.

This is a founding-level opportunity for a hands-on technical leader who wants real ownership, direct influence, and the chance to shape both the product and engineering function from the ground up.

The Opportunity:

As Founding Head of Engineering, you will take ownership of the technical direction, architecture, engineering execution, and future team build-out.

This is not a pure people management role. The company is looking for someone who can stay close to the code, make strong technical decisions, build at speed, and create the foundations for a high-performing internal engineering team.

For the right person, this role has a clear path towards a CTO-level position.

What You Will Be Doing:

You will own the technical roadmap alongside the founders, helping turn product vision into scalable engineering execution.

You will lead architecture decisions, guide system design, and ensure the platform is built in a way that can scale as the company grows.

You will remain hands-on across the codebase, particularly in Python-led environments, while also setting engineering standards, processes, and culture.

You will hire, mentor, and lead the first internal engineers, helping create a strong, ambitious, AI-native technical team.

You will work closely with the CEO and COO on product direction, delivery priorities, technical strategy, and long-term company growth.

What They Are Looking For:

The ideal person will be a hands-on engineering leader who has built products in early-stage, high-growth, or highly ambitious technical environments.

You should be comfortable operating with ownership, ambiguity, and speed. This is a company where decisions need to be made quickly, products need to ship, and the engineering function needs to be built properly from an early stage.

Strong Python experience is important, alongside good architectural judgement and the ability to build scalable systems.

You should have an AI-first mindset and be genuinely interested in how modern AI tooling, agentic systems, automation, and lean engineering teams can change the way products are built.

Experience in HealthTech would be useful, but it is not essential. The company is more interested in people who have built, shipped, owned technical decisions, and worked in environments where pace and quality both matter.

Useful Backgrounds:

This could suit someone coming from an early-stage startup, a high-growth scaleup, a strong product-led technology company, or a technical environment where engineering quality and fast execution are both critical.

Experience from HealthTech, AI, consumer technology, digital health, data-heavy products, or fast-scaling SaaS environments would all be relevant.

What matters most is that you are still a builder, not someone who only wants to manage from a distance.

Package:

Salary: Up to €150,000 depending on experience - This is negotiable for exceptional candidates
