IT Systems Administrator (Azure)

An established organisation within the semi-state and transport infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator to join its Enterprise Services team.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on supporting and maintaining a hybrid IT environment across on-premise infrastructure and cloud platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, availability, and security of core enterprise systems and services.

Working closely with internal teams and managed service providers, you will support daily operations, incident management, infrastructure optimisation, and continuous service improvement initiatives across a modern Microsoft environment.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

• Administer and support enterprise infrastructure including Windows Server environments, virtual platforms, and Azure cloud services
• Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and system health across hybrid environments
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders and managed service partners
• Support system upgrades, patching, maintenance, and lifecycle management activities
• Assist with deployment and configuration of Windows devices and applications using Microsoft Intune and Autopilot
• Contribute to operational improvements, automation, and standardisation initiatives

Identity & Access Management

• Manage and support Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID environments
• Administer user provisioning, deprovisioning, permissions, and access controls
• Maintain and optimise Group Policy configurations and identity management processes
• Support role-based access control (RBAC) aligned to security and business requirements

Microsoft 365 Administration

• Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including:
• Exchange Online
• Microsoft Teams
• SharePoint Online
• OneDrive
• Intune
• Monitor service health and troubleshoot M365-related issues
• Support ongoing optimisation and administration of collaboration platforms

Incident & Service Management

• Act as an escalation point for Level 1 support and wider IT teams
• Take ownership of infrastructure and platform-related incidents through to resolution
• Coordinate with managed service providers during incident response activities
• Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives following major incidents
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational records

Required Experience

• Proven experience in a Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar IT support role
• Strong experience supporting Windows Server environments (2019 and above)
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure
• Strong administration experience across Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
• Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments and associated services
• Knowledge of Intune, Autopilot, Group Policy, and identity/access management processes
• Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments
• Strong troubleshooting and incident management capabilities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
