About Birmingham City University
At Birmingham City University, we are a diverse and inclusive learning community of over 31,400 students from more than 120 countries. We are committed to becoming an exemplar anchor institution, creating and sharing knowledge to support a more inclusive and equitable society.
We deliver a transformational educational experience, support world-class research, and foster a collaborative, supportive working environment where our staff can thrive.
Recognised as one of the UK’s Top 250 employers by the Financial Times and Statista, we pride ourselves on being a place where colleagues feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow their careers while contributing to the success of our students and communities.
Our student population reflects the rich diversity of Birmingham, with a significant proportion of students from minoritised ethnic backgrounds and many home students from the West Midlands. We see this diversity as a strength. It calls for a workforce that actively challenges deficit narratives—assumptions that frame students from underrepresented groups as lacking—by instead recognising and building on their strengths, assets, and potential.
By embracing this approach, we aim to create an environment where all students and colleagues can succeed and where our work positively impacts the social, cultural, and economic life of Birmingham and beyond.
