Position SummaryThe Club Coach provides instruction, leadership, and supervision for the universitys Mens Soccer Club sport program.
Major ResponsibilitiesCoaching & Instruction
Plan and conduct practices, training sessions, and skill development activities appropriate to the level of club participants
Provide instruction on sport specific techniques, strategy, and rules
Promote safe participation and enforce applicable safety standards
Competition & Program Support
Attend and coach at competitions, matches, or tournaments as scheduled
Prepare the team for competition through game planning and performance feedback
Support student officers in organizing practices, competitions, and team activities
Student Development & Leadership
Foster teamwork, inclusion, sportsmanship, and positive conduct
Serve as a mentor and role model emphasizing personal responsibility and leadership
Reinforce university values and behavioral expectations
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities
Communicate regularly with student leaders and Campus Recreation staff
Ensure compliance with university policies, Club Sports guidelines, and applicable league rules
Report incidents, injuries, or conduct concerns to the appropriate university officials
Participate in required trainings, meetings, or certifications
Supervision & Risk Management
Monitor practices and competitions to ensure a safe environment
Respond appropriately to emergencies following university protocols
Support adherence to risk management and concussion or injury procedures
Functional and Supervisory RelationshipsReports to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation.
Required QualificationsKnowledge of and experience in the sport being coached
Ability to effectively teach, communicate, and work with college aged students
Commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment
Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by practice and competition schedules
Ability to meet university background check requirements
Preferred QualificationsPrior coaching or playing experience at the collegiate, club, or competitive level
First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe)
Familiarity with student led club sports programs
We prefer that Instructors have at least one years teaching experience
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong communication skills, including clear instruction, constructive feedback, and conflict resolution
Effective time management and organization skills to balance practices, events, and administrative tasks
Leadership skills that promote team cohesion, accountability, and sportsmanship
Ability to collaborate effectively with club officers, campus staff, and other coaches
Basic administrative skills (e.g., scheduling, tracking attendance, communicating via email or team platforms)
Ability to motivate and engage student-athletes in a positive, development-focused manner
Ability to adapt coaching methods to different learning styles and experience levels
Ability to model appropriate behavior and serve as a positive role model for students
Ability to maintain composure during competition and respond effectively to changing situations
Ability to enforce rules and standards consistently while fostering an inclusive environment
Ability to identify performance issues and implement constructive improvement plans
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as required by the club schedule.
