Position Overview
The Lead Systems Engineer provides senior technical leadership for tactical network engineering efforts, overseeing system design, integration, modernization, and sustainment activities. This role leads engineering teams, ensures architectural integrity across systems, and serves as a primary technical interface with Government stakeholders.
The position requires extensive experience in DoD systems engineering environments and a strong understanding of secure communication networks operating across multiple platforms in dynamic military settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of systems engineers supporting tactical network initiatives
- Translate operational and user requirements into system, hardware, and software specifications and architectural designs
- Oversee integration of new tactical network components into existing infrastructures
- Direct development and execution of system and integration test strategies
- Lead solutions to complex systems engineering challenges involving technology insertion and new product integration
- Design and maintain modular system architectures with standardized interfaces to ensure scalability and adaptability
- Manage network connectivity across platforms including ground vehicles, airborne assets, and command centers
- Supervise installation and configuration of unit-specific system settings and Internet Protocol (IP) parameters aligned with System Architecture and Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) requirements
- Ensure PdM NetMod and PdM Mission Network systems achieve and maintain Fully Mission Capable (FMC) status following fielding, reset, or upgrade activities
- Deliver technical briefings and communicate effectively with Government leadership and cross-functional teams
- Bachelor of Science degree
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience as a Systems Engineer or performing Systems Engineering-related activities
- Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining secure communication networks in military or field-based environments
- Experience integrating existing infrastructures with new tactical network components
- Experience managing network connectivity across ground, airborne, and command platforms
- Demonstrated ability to decompose systems into components and manage interface relationships
- Experience designing scalable modular systems with standardized interfaces
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Minimum 5 years supporting systems engineering technologies within the Department of Defense
- Familiarity with network protocols, routing technologies, data link layers, and encryption mechanisms
- Experience with embedded systems testing, integration testing, and systems-level validation
- Familiarity with modeling or simulation tools to evaluate system performance
- DoD 8570/8410 IAT Level II certification
- Experience supporting programs at Aberdeen Proving Ground
