About the role
Our client is seeking a sharp and commercially driven M&A Business Development Associate to support our corporate development and mergers & acquisitions pipeline. You will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic transactions that drive the company's growth agenda. This is a high visibility role with direct exposure to senior leadership and external advisors.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify, research, and evaluate potential acquisition targets and strategic partnership opportunities.
• Build and maintain a proprietary deal pipeline through market mapping, outreach, and relationship development.
• Conduct financial modelling, valuation analysis (DCF, LBO, comparable company analysis, precedent transactions), and deal structuring.
• Prepare investment memoranda, management presentations, and board materials.
• Support end-to-end M&A processes: LOI, due diligence, SPA negotiation, and integration planning.
• Develop and maintain relationships with investment bankers, advisors, brokers, and industry contacts.
• Produce sector-specific market intelligence reports and competitive landscape analysis.
• Track deal progress and maintain the CRM pipeline (e.g., DealCloud, HubSpot, or Salesforce)
• Work cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, and Operations during due diligence and integration.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• 2–5 years of experience in M&A, investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, or strategy consulting.
• Strong financial modelling skills in Excel; experience with DCF, LBO, and merger models.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related field (CFA or CA a plus)
• Experience preparing information memoranda, teasers, and management presentations.
• Commercially astute with the ability to assess strategic fit and value creation potential
• Excellent written and verbal communication — able to present clearly to C-suite and board level.
• Full working rights in Australia.
Nice to Have
• Experience in a specific vertical aligned with the company's acquisition strategy (e.g., SaaS, financial services, healthcare, infrastructure)
• Existing deal flow network or advisory relationships in Australia / APAC.
• Exposure to integration management post-close.
• CFA charter holder or CA/CPA qualification.
• Experience with DealCloud, Affinity, or similar deal management platforms.
Fully office based role in Sydney
Permanent full time employment.
Base salary: $95,000 - $135,000 + 11.5% superannuation
Bonus: Discretionary performance bonus
